I just wanted to let others know that the DEA's recent policy of putting quantity 'limits' on pharmacies has resulted in it becoming extremely difficult for me to get certain meds. It is now IMPOSSIBLE for me to get all of my meds at one pharmacy. I now have to go to 3 different pharmacies just to get ALL of my meds.
My pain doc writes me a monthly script for Dilaudid suppositories. Walgreen's USED to be able to get the full quantity, but ever since they started imposing 'limits' a couple of years ago, Walgreen's is no longer able to get the full quantity of my meds. I refuse to settle for fewer meds than my script is written for. I need the full quantity.
A year or two ago, I started filling my dilaudid supps script at the ONLY indy pharmacy in my local area. I once wrote on this forum that IF that store ever closed, I'd have big problems.
Well, guess what? I went to get the mail a few days ago, and I saw a letter from the indy pharmacy. I didn't owe them any money nor had I violated any rules, so I knew it could only mean ONE thing: The indy pharmacy that I depended on for my meds was closing. And unfortunately that IS the case. That pharmacy has been in business since 1935! It is SO sad to see that ALL of the indy pharmacies in my area are closing. All that's left are the chain stores, and they can't get my meds.
That indy store could get the FULL quantity of my meds within 1-2 days. I am SO sad to see that they are closing.
Today I went to one of the 'grocery store' pharmacies and explained my situation. First the pharmacist told me that she could only get a 'partial quantity' of my dilaudid supps. I asked her to please see if she could get more, and she called up her distributer. The pharmacist ended up telling me that she would be able to get the full quantity; just that she'd have to place one order now and then another order early next week. Time will tell if that is truly the case. (Sometimes the distributers lie to the pharmacists and say that they'll send out an order and then never do. At least that what Walgreen's told me was happening).
I'm still unclear as to WHY an indy pharmacy is able to get the FULL quantity of my meds immediately, whereas these other pharmacies have to place subsequent orders over a period of time just to get the full quantity. It's SO frustrating for a pain patient who just needs her meds! And I don't want to have to drive 60 miles round-trip every month to the only indy that's left in my area. Gas prices here are $4.50 a gallon, and that's a LONG drive every 28 days, especially for someone who is in chronic pain.
So that's my situation! I hope others here are doing well!
Best Wishes,
Eva
