I just wondered if people have any thoughts on Obamacare? Good, bad, in between? Personally, I'm waiting to see how it plays out.
If I give up my 'grandfathered' health insurance plan, I can NEVER go back to it, even if it turns out that I hate the 'new' plan. That is very scary. The 'grandfathered' plan is expensive and premiums always go up. I'm reasonably sure that Obamacare premiums will also go up. That's what my doctors have been telling me.
I'm particularly curious how people feel that Obamacare will affect CP patients?
I personally have to take a few different very specific and very expensive medications every month. My current insurance plan pays for these meds. I have serious doubts that a less expensive plan would cover these very expensive meds. If they did, the plan would LOSE thousands of dollars on me every single month. I cannot believe that ANY insurance company would allow those kinds of LOSSES.
I already checked the formularies for my current 'grandfathered' plan vs. the 'new' plans that my health insurance company offers. Of course, NONE of my expensive meds are covered by the lower cost plans.
I'm not sure how unique my situation is. I DO know that many of the meds manufactured for chronic pain are ridiculously expensive, so maybe there are others here who can relate.
I'd love to hear any stories about people who have tried Obamacare and how it turned out. It seems like it would be good for young and healthy people who don't have chronic medical problems. These people probably wouldn't have insurance otherwise. I'm still unsure how the new law will effect those of us who have chronic and complicated health problems.
Best Wishes,
Eva
