Sher I am finding mine disappearing too and then when I try to go back there is no restore option. I have learned to just go to Advanced and when the screen loads the restore option appears. I have had to do it a couple of times and ways but it always comes back.

The "back" and then "forward" buttons should restore any posts that pull a disappearing act on you. The advanced option is the best way to compile long posts, not sure why but the quick reply seems to be ... finicky

Beader I will put back some of the newer smilies
Question: Why can't I post links or pictures?
Question: Why can't I have a signature, avatar, or profile picture?
Question: What's wrong with my account?

Answer: You are in the "registered users" user group. This group is very limited in what it can do. This will annoy spammers to no end Just keep posting once you have been registered for 30 days and have made 11 posts your account will be "unlocked".

It's really easy to put someone on ignore and it's strongly recommended that you do so with people who's posts you don't like.

      Step 1 - log in
Step 2 - click on the "settings" link
Step 3 - click on the "edit ignore list" link on the left side of the screen
Step 4 - type (or paste if you copied and pasted it) the username of the person you want to ignore
Step 5 - click the "ok" button on the right of the screen

Easy peasy and will lower your blood pressure. One important note though, this won't hide quoted posts. It's an oversight on the developers part and it's not an easy thing to "fix." So if someone quotes someone you have ignored, you'll see the quote.

Alternatively when you click on a person's name and view their profile page, underneath their avatar, there is a option that says, "Ignore this person". Click that link and then click the yes button.

Sooo I accidentally clicked the wrong button ... and now all of the vB4 smilies are "installed". At the moment I don't have time to undo the snafu so if you're bored take a gander and tell me your top 20 smilies

I think eventually we will do a series of polls to decide which smilies/graphics stick around and which ones we send packing

OK, does this look larger than normal? I typed it and then went to "size" on the bar above & hit "3" & then highlighted the text. Oops, I highlighted & then hit 3, but now it's continuing in size 3.

Really confuzzled now. Just went to "Reply to Post" instead of "Quick Reply" & I'm not seeing anything called "Advanced". If I plan on writing a thoughtful thesis to answer the poster, I generally go this way. But I will try all suggestions to unPOOF my lost missives.

Aaahhh, I'm liking the new smiley options -- more creative expressions & "titles". YAY TEAM! Thanks, Mikey & Chris & Agate.

DUH. Now I see "Go Advanced" at the bottom below the "Quick Reply" box. Hahaha, I'm kind of afraid to push it. I'm NOT advanced. What if they send me to the principal's office?

Are there other things I can do in Advanced that I can't do in Regular Not Quick? OK, now I see charts & graphs & subscripts & superscripts. Does e = mc2? YES! Color me impressed.

I can't see many of the smilies well at all. They're reduced in size compared to the old board, and the new ones are tiny as well.

Anyway, thank you for asking for our opinions on smilies. These are my 20 favorites:

Hmmm the "old" smilies are the same size as the archives. I might be able to make them a little bigger without distorting them, I'll have to fiddle around and it will take some time as there are almost 200 smiilies (not counting any of the ones from the smilie site or from houghchrst ).

                    Dear Mike,

I lurve the new smilies, so I can't possibly pick just twenty. They are a RIOT! Great job, whoever found them! And I'm also enjoying their colorful quaint names.

I could skip the comic book panes & characters, as well as the non-domestic animals , altho' that sentiment might start an uproar. I never use the Disney stuff, so losing them would not be a problem for me IMHO.

That one's almost too small for me to see, Sally.

                          Almost.

I dunno. There are boards where obscene smilies are the order of the day, and free speech is a great idea, but after a while even obscene smilies can get boring. Just my opinion though.

Vicky, that's a truly GREAT frog!

That's because of the way those particular smileys were designed, they aren't as well defined as some of the others.

                              Agate,

I'm not exactly sure what you define as an "obscene" smiley. The "giving the finger" one above? The tongue-showing ones? Those I use to indicate either gagging or giving someone a raspberry, like sticking your tongue out when you were a little kid. I must not get around the web enough...

Beader, the administrators are in charge of deciding what's obscene. I'm not an authority on obscenity or on smilies, but just off the top of my head, I'd say that sticking one's tongue out isn't obscene but "giving the finger" probably is. However, it's getting to be so common that I'll probably get an argument here.

Just because it's commonly used doesn't mean it's something this board wants to encourage, though.

Defecation, urination, and vomiting are appearing in lots of smilies, too, but that doesn't mean we should have them here. There are plenty of other smilies to choose from.

But this is just one person's opinion.

I could do without "mooning" smilies too, come to think of it.

Yes, I'm a killjoy. I've read books with all kinds of scenes and language, and I'm not against letting everything hang out. In fact, I'm all for it. But it gets tiresome when everybody's trying to outdo everyone else in being potty-mouthed.

Do we really want to encourage people to insult one another?

In 11 years with this board, I've seen all too many instances where people got very, very angry. Venomous hostilities were exchanged, feelings were hurt beyond repair, and members left.

People with neurological disorders are often on a short fuse. They're not well, they're scared, they may be facing catastrophic losses. Why add ammunition for people's tempers? And obscenity is often used in anger.
