Wondering about a couple of features

I'm sure the admins don't need anything else on their agenda but if they're ever looking around for something to look into...:

1 - The old board had some links to PubMed and (I think) a couple of other information sources. Are these impossible here?

2 - I see that there is a Calendar but with no entries on it. The old board's Calendar hadn't worked for many years either. It would be nice (I think) if it could be activated so that users who entered their birthdays in their Profiles would find that that date would automatically show up on the Calendar--and maybe even nicer if any registered user could enter an event on the Calendar. For instance, there a couple of important neurology conferences every year, and it might be helpful to know when those are.

This is just a wish list of mine. I hope others will contribute their wish lists as well. The admins can always ignore all of the wish lists if they're too busy. But it won't hurt to ask.

#1 Yes I just have to get to it (on the list)

#2 Your usergroup has permissions to create stuff in the calendar.
    • Start a new topic
    • Enter an event title
    • Underneath the title box are 4 icons, click the calendar
    • Enter "details"
    • Adjust dates
    • Add tags, photos, or whatever
    • "Post"
    That should do it :)
Question: Why can't I post links or pictures?
Question: Why can't I have a signature, avatar, or profile picture?
Question: What's wrong with my account?

Answer: You are in the "registered users" user group. This group is very limited in what it can do. This will annoy spammers to no end Just keep posting once you have been registered for 30 days and have made 11 posts your account will be "unlocked".

It's really easy to put someone on ignore and it's strongly recommended that you do so with people who's posts you don't like.

    Step 1 - log in
Step 2 - click on the "settings" link
Step 3 - click on the "edit ignore list" link on the left side of the screen
Step 4 - type (or paste if you copied and pasted it) the username of the person you want to ignore
Step 5 - click the "ok" button on the right of the screen

Easy peasy and will lower your blood pressure. One important note though, this won't hide quoted posts. It's an oversight on the developers part and it's not an easy thing to "fix." So if someone quotes someone you have ignored, you'll see the quote.

Alternatively when you click on a person's name and view their profile page, underneath their avatar, there is a option that says, "Ignore this person". Click that link and then click the yes button.

      Thank you!
I just tried the Calendar by entering one birthday for someone whose Profile shows it, but unfortunately it also showed up as a post on the MS board when I meant it to show up only on the Calendar, which it did. I'm not sure what went wrong.

I'll check to see what type of editor is in my Settings because it's not visible to me here on this desktop PC. It might be visible on the iPad version but for some reason I'm not able to log in there today--I'm still trying to figure this out.

I always had the Editor set at at the Advanced setting (WYSIWYG) on the old board.

Item No 2 would be a great help as it will give awareness of conferences being held. Hope this would really works!

That would be nice, I agree--but I wouldn't get my hopes up for the Calendar. I've seen quite a few message boards where that feature either was disabled or never worked well.

But there was a page with general information on it, including some PubMed entries, and as I recall some conferences were routinely listed there. There would probably be a tab at the top of the screen directing people to that page but I can't recall the title of the page.

So according to vBulletin all calendar entries will also create a post to allow discussion of said entry. The conversation isn't shown on the calendar but can be accessed through it by clicking on it.
I am going to create a sub-forum to be used to enter calendar events, that way they are all in one place and won't get lost in the shuffle :)

I tried that out with the notice about the AAN meeting. Thank you for pointing the way.
