About links

Posting links can be a challenge, I'm finding.

If you've written some text and then post a link and would like to add some more text after that link, it doesn't seem to be possible. Or at least I haven't figured it out. The only way to add more text is to add it before the link (on top of it but not below it).

Also, and this is a problem I've been having many times though not always. If you post a link, it shows up as 2 links. The top one, which is in a fainter font, is the specific one you want to direct readers to. The second one, which looks more like a traditional link, just takes people to a Website's main page. I've tried editing out first one part, and then the other, but often end up explaining that the top link is the one to try.

It would be helpful if link posting could be more straightforward.

Example of what I'm talking about--If I want to post a link to the COVID-19 thread in the MS forum (channel?), I get this. I've checked "No preview thumbnail" but the result will be the same with the preview thumbnail.

Also, anyone posting a link often has to edit out quite a lot of unnecessary (IMO) extra material. I did that here. Maybe other people would want it there but my guess is that they wouldn't.

Another example--and everything after this bit of text I'm writing comes up as part of the link unless the poster edits it. But a bigger problem is that everyone has to know that the top link is the one they need to go to, not the lower one--and that gets complicated for people who are used to clicking on something starting with http....:

There isn't a setting to change the way the code behaves to make links. But I'm using this reply to test out a method of Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register... to see if it works.

Ok so "making links" is a link. After typing that phrase I highlighted it (right mouse click n drag) and then clicked on the link icon (looks like a sideways paper clip) and posted the url in the box and that was it.

The following is done a bit differently Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register... and should be similar to what you are used to. This was done by typing [ url]http://www.google.com[ /url] (without the space in the url tags)

I'm not sure how your links are being formed or what "editor" you are using to post replies. That is a setting in your profile, I always use the advanced option.

Thank you for the suggestions! I hope to have some time to try out the suggested methods for links very soon--in the next couple of days.

I thought I posted about the "editor" somewhere but maybe I didn't. I couldn't find any "editor" setting in my Profile and I don't think there is one. Instead we have that large A in the top right above this message window. For each post we can toggle to the Advanced Editor, and all of the editing icons show up across the top, or we can do without those.

I probably said this in another thread but it might not hurt to have it out there for people to see more than once because it's fairly important for anyone trying to post here to know.
