    Why BT went poof

    Dr. Dan Hoch is the guy paying the bills to keep BT up and running. The card he uses to pay the host had expired and he simply didn't realize it. So we went into "past due" status and the host turned us off. I sent an email to Dan and David as soon as I realized we were offline. Dan is out of town at a conference until the 25th so he didn't reply to my email right away. I sent another to David asking him to call/text Dan and then left them to resolve the issue.

    It was an easy fix, but the only one who could fix it was Dan and with him being out of town the timing for this oversight could not have been worse

    Once I'm done with midterms and Dan is back home the 3 of us will get together and see if there is something we could be doing better about this.

    To all of those that had emailed me, I'm sorry I didn't reply. There were an awful lot of emails and I just didn't have the time to answer them before BT came back up.

    Answer: You are in the "registered users" user group. This group is very limited in what it can do. This will annoy spammers to no end Just keep posting once you have been registered for 30 days and have made 11 posts your account will be "unlocked".

    It's really easy to put someone on ignore and it's strongly recommended that you do so with people who's posts you don't like.

    Step 1 - log in
    Step 2 - click on the "settings" link
    Step 3 - click on the "edit ignore list" link on the left side of the screen
    Step 4 - type (or paste if you copied and pasted it) the username of the person you want to ignore
    Step 5 - click the "ok" button on the right of the screen

    Easy peasy and will lower your blood pressure. One important note though, this won't hide quoted posts. It's an oversight on the developers part and it's not an easy thing to "fix." So if someone quotes someone you have ignored, you'll see the quote.

    Alternatively when you click on a person's name and view their profile page, underneath their avatar, there is a option that says, "Ignore this person". Click that link and then click the yes button.

      Oh that's why my computer keep giving me that "can't find server" error message. Glad BT is back!! I understand about the emails. :) Thank you for telling us what happened. I was afraid I'd never be able to get on the forum again.

        Thanks to you three, we have this wonderful community, and I am extremely grateful for your efforts on our behalf.

        And I'm very relieved that it was not a technical malfunction, which would render us without BT for an extended length of time.

        Dr. Dan is at a conference, David is on vacation, and Mike is working his buns off saving kittens, helping veterans, fixing automobiles, and getting a college degree. What could go wrong, eh?!

        Timing is everything!

        Mike, in lieu of responding to emails, you might consider just posting on Facebook, when some kind of "crisis" occurs, and perhaps remind folks here at BT periodically that the Facebook page will be the resource page for information, should there be any kind of problem with BT. Then, we won't bombard you with emails! Those, who are on Facebook, can communicate there.

        Again, I, the anti-Facebooker, am promoting Facebook.

            hey all!

            as rose said, there is a facebook page called "BrainTalk Communities" that had explanations of what was going on. url: Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register...

            if you're not on facebook, perhaps finding a friend in your forum who is on facebook and sharing information would keep you up to date if things go wrong on bt.

                Thank you for the update, Mike. You are doing an incredible amount of good, I love that you are helping kitty's, as well as all the other interests you are pursuing. Good for you going back to school. Take care and THANK YOU.

                    OK Michael, you are very bright, funny, loving and all those nice things, BUT you have got to stop burning the candle at both ends!!

                    We all love you and want you around for a very long time. You are young compared to some of us ((especially me)) and trust me when I say you can't burn that candle at both ends forever or you will burn out FAST!!

                    I'm so very proud of all you do and now that you are back in school you have much riding on your back. You don't have to answer all the email you get. We are just wanting to encourage you to help you along the way.
