    Since I can't edit prior post . . .

For many, this is the original BrainTalk, with material from January 2000 through April 2004 - before 'the server' left MGH.

If you are among the original Braintalk members, here are the starting urls for the 'top' level of the archives of the MGH BTC (the content existing before vBulletin) as available through 'WayBack:'

    A-L
Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register...

    M-Z
Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register...

Of course, even if you were not among those members, these urls should still work . . .
I amended the above links because vBulletin's 'abbreviation algorithm' causes them to 'look' like 'soft por*' (I'm not certain what an a**Cookie is, but don't eat one (it actually said BypassCookie))! They are to the Ultimate Bulletin Board edition of BTC.

McFox found a vBig Archive of the vBulletin edition of BTC in the 'WayBack' . . . but none of the copies of BTC's web pages I tried to review are 'deep.' Each of those I tried are instead 'stubs,' in essence they only contain a list of the forums but none of the lists of threads - much less the posts, which are one and two levels 'below' the 'forums' level. The last 'stub' 'copy' is dated 6 APR 2009 - it contains a partial title of the last updated thread in each forum and the member, time and date the update took place . . . a few interesting facts were saved, these are:

    Threads: 47,763, Posts: 333,133, Members: 49,688, Active Members: 28,152

I just found another vBulletin page from 27 Aug 2005, which indicates:
    Threads: 97,498, Posts: 798,524, Members: 38,755

There were then 456 members on-line, Mike Weins recently posted to "Holy SPAM, Batman . . . " in "Feedback Forum" when 'WayBack' began what would be its final 'crawl' of 'hastypastry' BTC.

I don't know why the 2005 vBulletin edition of BTC contains more posts than the 2009 vBulletin edition . . . I don't recall issues at 'hastypastry,' . . .

Does this mean 1,131,657 posts and 145,261 threads remain among the missing?

Here is a direct link to a help screen that shows how to get a link to be more presentable:

'WayBack' was again upgrading there services this past weekend and reported they have more bugs to work out . . . so who knows what they will be able to recover.

    2004 - 2009 with help from McFox:

Here is the even older version of BTC, from the MGH web site before UBB, (1997-2000)
Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register...

    from 1993 to 1997 I don't know.

So, through this thread you can reach any of the findable pieces of BrainTalk . . . but as of today some very big bites remain missing.

My guess is, since inception, Braintalk has received in the neighborhood of about five million posts.

The wayback machine does have lots of gaps and I never did get any responses when I asked about them :( If you want I can amend the links in your original post if you tell me where it is I don't think I'd eat an a* either
Question: Why can't I post links or pictures?
Question: Why can't I have a signature, avatar, or profile picture?
Question: What's wrong with my account?

Answer: You are in the "registered users" user group. This group is very limited in what it can do. This will annoy spammers to no end Just keep posting once you have been registered for 30 days and have made 11 posts your account will be "unlocked".

It's really easy to put someone on ignore and it's strongly recommended that you do so with people who's posts you don't like.

        Step 1 - log in
Step 2 - click on the "settings" link
Step 3 - click on the "edit ignore list" link on the left side of the screen
Step 4 - type (or paste if you copied and pasted it) the username of the person you want to ignore
Step 5 - click the "ok" button on the right of the screen

Easy peasy and will lower your blood pressure. One important note though, this won't hide quoted posts. It's an oversight on the developers part and it's not an easy thing to "fix." So if someone quotes someone you have ignored, you'll see the quote.

Alternatively when you click on a person's name and view their profile page, underneath their avatar, there is a option that says, "Ignore this person". Click that link and then click the yes button.

          Thanks Mike:

This is the copied URL but it doesn't look right . . . I've never seen -.-.-. at the end of an URL . . .

If they don't work, it was about four lines down in this forum (Feedback Forum) and Titled "Blast from the . . ."

I intend to make another thread with a 'professionalized' 'complete' collection of the (I think I've found them all now) archives, not that the data will really be there, rather its supposed to be there, and in many cases actually is - maybe further improvements to 'WayBack' will bring more back.

I wanted to give 'WayBack' a few more days, they say they have some more problems to solve and last I checked, most of the 'vBulletin' seemed to be missing the threads and posts, only the forum titles (with the most recently updated thread notation) appeared.

            Oops, Oh Yeah . . . !

I wanted to add, but forgot, that this thread was produced when I thought I was simply posting a new reply to the other thread . . . I have no idea yet why it 'decided' to start a new thread rather than add to the other thread, which is what I had intended . . . I have not figured that out yet but I haven't really tried to either.

                The last . . . the original . . . BTC MGH 1995 . . . 1997

BTC is usually regarded as having started in 1993 but apparently, they did not begin accumulating posts until 1995.

I think this completes the starting points but what depth remains continues to be under study.

                      purusing the archives . . .

                      Michelle38, nice find!

While I have found numerous pages of vBulletin BTC in WayBack, most of the pages (558 of them I think) are the BTC Homepage of the moment WayBack 'crawled' the website. I have found some thread lists, in this example, the Forum Feedback on July 15, 2007 at 6:39:11, AM I think, there were 848 people on-line at that time:

Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register...

Most of the vBulletin 'era' BTC on WayBack seem to be homepage only but I have found a few thread lists in a couple of forums and even some posts. Mostly though, its Hrm, WayBack doesn't seem to have that page backed-up . . . the non-vBulletin stuff seems to be very complete (not totally complete, but mostly so). Maybe WayBack doesn't like vBulletin . . . I don't know.

                      Thoughts anyone?

BTC still seems very slow, . . .

I found a reference in the WayBack archives that speaks to the occasion of nearly 3,000 members on line at once . . . of course, lately its more like eight.
