    Glucose Intolerance

Hi all - i need an answer as soon as possible - my fiancee is having a hard time with her meds and is wondering if Glucose is used as a filler. the only brand she is happy with is Endo (does it have glucose) and there seems to be a shortage right now. Mallen____ is useless -PM me for details, anyway, she is insisting on endo - she seems to be stuck on the idea - other pills have too much filler Abbott, etc. I am at my wits end - suggestions? maybe a differant drug? could she just do ir instead? Our doc (bless her soul) is willing to work with us but I need answers. we see the doc. tommorow. Is there a test for glucose intolerance?

Why not get it compounded with the filler of her choice? What med is this? Yes there is a glucose intolerance test. I would think she would have had this turn up with food though? I think they can use glucose, but you'd think the amount that could be in a daily amount of pills must be small? If this is a long acting med, I'd think there are other options before switching to an IR med. Is she having a reaction to certain brands, or does it just not work as well? Best wishes.

Alex, I can't address what the fillers are. I just don't know. But yes, there are glucose intolerance tests. I had a 3 hour done when I was pregnant years ago. And yes, I was a gestational diabetic but controlled by diet. Then years later I had a 5 hour GTT done and was hypoglycemic. Since then I have just learned how to adjust my diet. I also ASK for an A1C every year as part of my annual physical. I say ask because it is not normally part of the panel. The A1C covers the past 3 months and can tell the doc if I have my blood sugar under control. So far so good.

Compounding could be a option.. putting the oral med in a gelatin capsule.. there is no need for any fillers... Fillers are usually used in tablet format.. to make sure that they break up in the stomach... and they don't crumble in the bottle...with a gelatin capsule.. the capsule dissolves on its own and the contents are already in a readily absorption form since it is already in a "power form" as opposed to a compressed power form in a tablet.

Thank you to all that replied. I don't know of any compounding pharmays aroud here and I doubt that medicaid would pay for it anyway. We are both having full blood panels done, and she will be tested for glucose intolerance- she has never eaten much sugar excepting what is found in fruit. now, instead of Mallencraft ER, which niether one of us likes, Endos (I Called endo and they dont or won't say how the long the shortage will last - there is none to be had except what Pharms in stock and my script would wipe them out. So, my doc put her on 2 15mg. IR every four hous and it seems to be working well.
Thank you for your replies and hope everyone is doing ok.
