Here is the location to check you own state..If they will show it. Otherwise you can go to medscape and search for it..

I like the part unless you are being treated by a pain specialist, It would be very sad if chronic Pain Pt's could not get their meds, not matter what state they are from!

Becky, I don't want the provision about unless you are treated by a pain specialist. In our small town we have no pain specialist and I have gotten my pain meds through my GP from the beginning. I would have to travel more than 60 miles if I had to get treated by a pain specialist and I can't make those trips any more. I like our INSPECT program to keep people from doctor shopping.

Are you from Indiana or Ohio? I live in Indiana, I did have a pain specialist, but he sent me to Spine Institute in Indianapolis, got a recommendation from the specialist up there, which was no more invasive, surgical procedures are to be done to my back ever again..I have been going to my GP for 30 yrs and he agreed along with my PM that he would write my meds, he has been doing this for past 7 yrs.. I do not want to go back to PM at all..IT would cost me twice as much, since my gp takes care of my other issues, and I just don't want to deal with 2 dr's every month.

Becky, you certainly are correct that private pain doctors are expensive. My pain doctor is out-of-network, so I have to pay most of the costs out-of-pocket. It does get to be pretty expensive, but my pain doctor is worth it.
Before I got into pain management, my pain was being very poorly managed by my G.P and my neurologist. Seems that most non-pain docs are quite opiophobic. I spent YEARS trying to get adequate care before I finally went to a pain doctor.
I'm glad that your GP has agreed to prescribe your pain meds. I'm sure it's easier and cheaper than seeing a pain doc.

Unfortunately, a lot of pain patients don't have the option of having their G.P. prescribe their pain meds. My GP didn't even know how to properly manage pain. In my experience, most GP's don't have a clue how to properly manage pain. They'll give you #30 codiene pills a month and expect that to do the trick. They deal with such ridiculously low doses, I'm surprised that anyone gets pain relief from it.

For the really severe pain cases, I really think a pain doc is best. But I understand just wanting to deal with your GP, especially if he is willing to prescribe your pain meds.

I also live in IN. I have been a CP patient for many years now. Some time ago my son was in an accident that damaged his back and has been dealing with CP for several years now, he went to my PM Dr. a while back whom I have no problems with.

When the Dr. came in he had an attitude with my son and after a few words went on to tell my son that the DEA was being called he had ck'ed the data base( you speak of) and said my son was Dr. Shopping and getting scripts from a few other Dr'.s in neighboring towns.

Long story my son's identity had been stolen and being used by some one else. Fortunately he was able to prove it wasn't him before to much damage was done.

This all is very frightening and aggravating as to what is to become of all us..
