aling with pain instead of sleep tonight

No real reason for my pain levels to be so high but they are high enough to keep me from sleeping. I had a good pain week last week but I attribute most of that to sleeping more than usual [too much really]. The past two days have been completely different. I have the usual culprit at T4 but tonight I also have pain in my neck and down my left arm [no it isn't a symptom of heart attack pain I have had it checked in the past]. The usual methods of dealing with the pain isn't helping. It would be much better if I could point to some activity that has caused my pain to shoot up but there isn't anything I can point to that explains that.

If this follows like past episodes then the pain should subside in a few days or at least within a week. If it doesn't I will schedule a deep muscle massage that has helped break the pain cycle for me. Not much anyone can do but coming her and putting it down in text at least feels like I am doing something to work it out. This is probably just the usual pain cycle but it gets tiring having my pain increase for a week as it interrupts my sleep and makes me edgier to be around and I don't want to do that to my wife.

EDIT: the title should read "dealing with pain....

Mark I wish I had words I wish you of wisdom for you but alas, I do not. I do know that not sleeping right can heighten pain levels, and also make us cranky. this can lead to all kinds of problems, esp. with our S/o's. I wish you and yours the very best, I will pray that this resolves for you, the pain monster is a b.... , I hope it gets better for you.

Alex, like usual my body decided to handle the problem on its on so I was hit with a "lost" day but that brings its own problems. One day of sleep for 24 hours is heaven but the next day [today] I feel like I am coming down with the flu. I have decided it is due to dehydration since I don't eat, drink or have any bodily functions on my lost day. The second day after is usually a good day so I am hopeful to get a nap in tonight and have a good day later on.

Alex, thanks for the kind words as today was a better day as I expected. It helped that the family got together for Sunday dinner at a well known BBQ place and shopping at Home Depot for the materials to reframe their front door. Our two grand daughters are such darlings and the littlest one still see grandpa as her favorite constantly wanting me to hold her. I hope I can sleep tonight and have a better day today and I pray that you and your SO are doing better as you deal with your own struggles.

Linda, the flare has finally settled down after it seemed like it wasn't going to end. Linda I am looking forward to your story and hope others will reply to it. It is a good thing my flare has calmed down as our state championship football team is having a reunion this month. We won it in 1995 and finally the school is going to honor the players. I hate the thought of the 6 hour drive there and back though.

Mark I am glad to hear the flare has settled down. I too have been needing lots of rest and had my second episode of lost time yesterday. Totally freaked me out. Sorry to hear it's been an issue for you, but I know you are an expert with them and know how to ride them out. Ain't fun. I totally hate the lost days sleeping it away or too sick to do anything. But we have no control over it so it's easier to accept it than fight it. That's probably about the only good thing about my STBX leaving, that he's not here to pressure me to do things I can't do.

Again, glad you are feeling better and hope you have more weeks of less pain.

Melissa, it has to help not having someone to berate you for something you can't help. I am thankful my wife understands and doesn't bug me about the lost days. The best strategy I have found is to just accept them and ignore that a whole day has gone by. The biggest problem if they become regular for you is it is difficult to make any plans not knowing if you may have a lost day coming on. I hope lost days don't become part of your routine but if they do just enjoy a day without pain.

Mark - Good to see you here - we need more people back. I know about lack of sleep - it is no fun. My S/O does not worry me about it but I feel bad leaving her all alone in the morning as that is the only time I can sleep. Anyway, Glad you are feeling better and hope the flare does not come back.

Alex, one thing I can count on is the flares coming back sometime but I don't worry about it. My wife is dealing with lumbar spine problems this week but as usual it was due to her doing something she shouldn't do but unwilling to ask someone else to help. I hope she gets better soon as it is lasting longer than usual this time. Our youngest granddaughter is now starting to walk so she keeps us hopping now. I stopped by this evening since I wished seeing them this weekend. The girls are always a joy when I go over even though I know they have their times with their parents like all kids. One thing about CP is we need to get our sleep whenever it comes around so there is no reason to feel bad about sleeping. My wife is being reminded how much sleep she does when she is in pain with her back, it just takes it out of you and doesn't let you get good sleep. Alex, I hope you and your SO have a good week.
