Thank you for your service, Alex.

One of my grandfathers served in the Spanish American War, the other served in WWI, and my dad served in WWII. The names of far too many of the boys I knew in school are on the Vietnam Memorial Wall.

Thank you to all of our Veterans and military personnel for your service. May we all support you in receiving the benefits, treatment and care you deserve.

Let there be peace on Earth.

Hi All - I am sad. I posted a thank you to our vets, many coming home with no legs, eye's, arms, Etc. out of SIXTEEN views, only one said thank you. I don't want thanks for me, I simply wanted for ALL, or at least some of us, I know we all have difficult circumstances, but , lets be real, if you can take the time to view the post, you have the time to say "thank you" to all the KIDS, for the most part, who are forever changed by their service. BTW, Thank you Rose - You have always been here and understand what this board is about.

      Sad
      Blessings to all

Not all 20 views are from different people. You count as one viewer of the thread (every author does, for some reason). I have actually checked this thread twice (three times now, since I went to the forum page to see how many views your thread has). I didn't post earlier, as I had things to do, and I wanted to think about my reply too.

Also, I guess there are "bots" or something of the sort, which troll the site, looking for certain words. Okay, I have no idea, because that is too technical for my non-technical brain. But, not all of the views are actually by human beings.

Consider as well that people, who aren't BT members and can't post, also visit BT and read our threads. Guest views are counted for threads.

Some folks may be integrating a vacation with the long Memorial Day weekend, so they aren't here to respond.

And, as you know, participation in general here at BT has been extremely low in recent weeks/months.

Take heart, dear Alex. I would imagine that the majority of our members think about our veterans and appreciate their sacrifices and their service, even if they don't respond here to this thread. And, I think we also have several members, who, like you, are veterans. And if they read here, they know they are honored by your thread.

          hey everyone

          just came across this thread!

my grandpa fought in WW1. my dad was a pow of the germans from 1943 doing forced labor and didn't leave there untii around 1951. my brother was in the army towards the end of the vietnam war, but didn't fight in vietnam. my ex was in the navy during the vietnam war era and also didn't fight in vietnam.

i'm happy that most of the troops will be coming home from afghanistan by the end of next year and i pray for all who have died or are suffering from the invasion of iraq, including the iraqi people needlessly killed.

i hope the vets get all the benefits they deserve, including medical and mental care.

yes, war can be over. there are so many methods of dealing with world problems other than sending our soldiers to foreign lands to die.

          thank you for serving, alex.

i thank all veterans reading this for their service and bless those who died serving their country.

Rose - funny you should mention the Spanish - American war. One of My great-probobly another great in front of that that served in the S/A War. What i found wonderful, was that towards the end, he was in a nursing home, so was told by my Mom. was that if he did not get his alloted shot of whiskey right on time, he would raise heck. What a man to have seen that much history - I was told he lived into his ninty's - this was way back in the sixties. God bless our vets.

Thank you for your service and thank you to all of your equally brave family members for their service.

I don't know anyone, other than you, who had a grandfather (great, great-great, or otherwise) who served in the Spanish-American war. My maternal grandma died at 92 in 1992, and she used to count the number of wars she had lived through, and it was just astonishing and heart breaking.

Your poor dad! Oh my! That must have been so terrifying and traumatic for him! I give thanks for his service and sacrifice, and thanks to all of your family members, who served.

I believe that our Veterans deserve everything they need ~ housing, medical care, employment waiting for them, when they leave the service, lifetime benefits, a pension, whatever we can give them, they deserve. There should be no need for charitable organizations serving our wounded warriors. Our Veterans served for us, and we owe them support through our tax dollars.

Support Our Troops Should Mean Support Our Troops, There and Here, or Wherever They Are ~

Rose - I was told about my (i don't know how any greats about 45 years ago when my Mom was alive) family member. He must have seen history in the making, but according to her, he lived a long life and demanded his ration of Whiskey in the home. Thank ALL of you for your wonderful comments - It has brighened my day and week - a lot of Drama but what else is new. WE ALL need to support our vets, the VA is a MESS, and i speak from sad experiance, they should get the same benifits that CONGRESS gets, they get the GOLDEN package when it comes to health care - Do our vets deserve any less?

I loved listening to my elders speak of their experiences. I feel like I learned history at their knees. Now, I'm an elder in the family, with the history stored in my memory. Yet, no one asks for me to tell them stories of the past, or of our family. I hate to see the lineage end. But there are far too many shiny objects in front of young folks today distracting them from learning about the past.

My prayers are with you that you and your partner are faring well with all that you're enduring.

A friend once said to me, "You've been through worse and survived. Nothing the Universe throws at you is beyond your ability to conquer it."

                      Stay strong!

Alex you are right about our vets and Congress but of course we are part of the ruling elite like many of them see themselves. I can't even get on VA medical help but can't say I even want to anymore. This mess also shows what ACA will be like and how the progressives said it would be like is false. My family has seen our deductible go up so much that we are paying out of pocket for our medication until we spend $4500. It is the middle class that is paying for the money help so many others are getting [I will stop here so it doesn't get too political].

                          mark,

sorry you are having so many probs with coverage. perhaps it's because your state governor hasn't expanded medicaid coverage for your state. people with income in certain ranges would be able to get lower cost health insurance based on their income if medicaid coverage was expanded in their state. you should still apply for medicaid even if your state hasn't expanded it because you might qualify because of a disability.

i won't make any comments about the affordable care act. i hope you've at least explored the healthcare.gov website to see if you could get a cheaper plan before you criticized it. there is a helpline to call and they will navigate you through the whole process. the VA is a government agency that hasn't been functioning well for quite awhile. the aca is a law that regulates insurance companies and i'm still surprised how many people don't know that.

i hope the information i posted above is helpful.

tic chick, no the problem is that middle class income people are getting hammered by the changes in health care. We don't have any problem getting insurance and my wife's company kicks in about 75% of the premium cost but with the mandated changes the deductible cost and premiums have gone up dramatically for the middle class as we are subsidizing for the people that "can't afford" [no checks on what they claim is their income] insurance. There just needs to be radical changes to get cost down. Most people don't realize that insurance companies will be reimbursed by the gov't if they lose money insuring people. Indiana has had a good system for people that couldn't afford insurance, my daughter and SIL had to use it for their first baby, so that is why our gov. didn't think medicaid needed to be expanded and the federal gov't agreed which is why we got a waiver.

Mark, If I am not being too personal, You of all people shold be eligable. I am sure you were in-service before I was and lifetime medical care was a given, this was in the 70's. For them to deny you is just plain wrong - even if they made changes, us older folk , to the best of my understanding, were grandfathered in.
                              Best of luck
                              Thank YOU for your service
                              Many Blessings
                              Alex44

PS: you are right about the quality of care - givrn the choice, I will go to a private doc. but seldom have the funds to do so. You CAN fire your Doc. at the VA, I went thru 7 alone in another state, one poor guy was dragged out of retirement and made no bones about how he felt about it and he was in his mid 60's. so I am sure how having him for a primary was like - Most of them do the best they can but seems to me i read about all these bonus's Etc. going to higher ups is BS - put that money to use where it belongs - in patient care.
                              A.
