This forum is dead compared to what it used to be! Back a few years ago I was Rockhound. Had to reregister. Anyway, I was wondering how things worked out with the VA for you, Alex. When my husband went from regular pm to VA they promptly cut his pain meds in half and denied him his BT meds and the valium for his neck-related migraines. We decided to bite it and pay for part b in his Medicare so he can go back to pm but not sure if we can do it financially. We shall see. The VA here in Anchorage is AWFUL! He needed an infected tooth out. The VA took an xray then referred him to a dentist for the wrong tooth! Then they failed to forward the xrays so that dentist couldn't do anything! Now mind you, he is in a wheelchair with a broken leg and pelvis, is 6'8" so dental chairs are difficult for him, and just getting him there is hard! Now they lost the xrays, the tooth that needed to come out is worse plus the one they originally planned to pull is now broken and he has to start over! The infection is making him sick and he can't eat much. I hope your VA care has improved but ours sure hasn't!

gracie, hi it is good to see you once again. Sorry to hear your husband is still having so many problems. It is sad that we deal with so much more because troubles with the medical community [whichever one we deal with] cause us to suffer more. I hope he finally gets the help he needs and has his teach and broken bones healed.

        ((((((Gracie)))))) ~

        Back!

Unfortunately, a lot of members left for awhile, as you did, and they either didn't return, or only pop in occasionally.

I'm so sorry that the VA is so insensitive and incompetent, and that your husband is suffering as a result. Oral health is vital to systemic health. As soon as he has the infected tooth removed, he will feel much better all over. In the meantime, is he on an oral antibiotic? Even a broad spectrum antibiotic, like Amoxicillin, may quell the infection, until he's able to have the tooth removed. Perhaps he could ask his primary care doc for a prescription.

A temporary over the counter remedy, which might help, is Orajel. It has a numbing agent.

        Can he take Advil (Ibuprofen)?

Hope that your husband is able to have the tooth extracted soon. Please give him my thanks for his service. If I were in charge, every Vet would receive the best care available without cost to them. It's just disgusting the way we treat our Vets and their families. God Bless You. And Thank You!

        Love & Light,

Alex, good to hear from you but I know what you mean by existing but no thanks from the VA. Its good to be cheerful but sometimes in life that isn't possible.
