    Enzymes for Celiac Disease

Back in 2008 Alvine started testing ALV003. It is a combo of enzymes for CD that was supposed to be on the "fast track". The original company, Alvine, needed some financial help and they just received $70 million from a subsidiary of Abbott.

    What is ALV003?
Alvine Pharmaceuticals is developing ALV003, which is a mixture of two proteases (ALV001 and ALV002). ALV001 is a modified recombinant version of a Hordeum vulgare (barley) cysteine endoprotease B, isoform 2 (EP-B2) proenzyme. ALV002 is a modified recombinant version of a Sphingomonas capsulata prolyl endopeptidase (SC-PEP).

One report I read on the clinical trials with this is that it would help with cross contamination issues but would not let people eat gluten freely.

You beat me too it...My husband sent me this yesterday. He is now working for Abbvie so I sort of have to hope it's a success.

I would love to see this work for cross contamination. Would take much of the worry out of eating away from home.

I have never tried the OTC enzymes. I have heard mixed reviews on them.
