Cannot believe that it October already. September was very busy month. My DIL is almost finished with her radiation treatments, TG. I finally finished with PT for the shoulder tendonitis but have exercises to continue at home so that I can get shoulder
strengthened. One of my best friends fell and broke a hip, so several trips to the hospital.
Hope that everyone is well.

October, wow! I'm anxious for the weather to get cool and stay that way in So. CA. Right now it is going from the 70's to the 90's and back again. At least the nights are cooling off!
My back pain is being managed much better now and there may be a cortisol shot (epidural) soon.
I am celebrating the new health care act and realizing I could actually go to work for myself again if I wanted to. Now I can't be turned down for pre-existing conditions! Yippee!

On Oct 1 I flew to Seattle to spend a week with my son and DIL. Had not seen them in a year. Because of the government shutdown, his vacation that week was cancelled. He is considered essential and was required to work all week. At least we had evenings and the weekend.
Reading Grain Brain by Dr. Perlmutter. Even if you think you know all about gluten, it is an excellent read. He also goes into the damaging effects of sugars.
Cara, 3 grandkids? I lost count. Thought there were only 2.

Anne, yes, I have three! Julia, my Halloween grandbaby, Will, my Christmas grandbaby, and my newest Nolan, 3 months old. Will and Julia are Dan and Lizzie's. Nolan is Kelly and Nates. They are great fun!Last edited by jcc; 10-10-2013, 04:00 PM.

Darn, if I'd known you were going to be in Seattle, I would've met up with you one day.Originally posted by annelb View PostOn Oct 1 I flew to Seattle to spend a week with my son and DIL. I learned a lesson this month. I need to plan ahead and have some snacks on hand to bring with me when I go out for undetermined periods of time. My Mom had fainted a couple of nights in a row and wanted me to take her to the doctor. The doctor sent her to the emergency room and 10 hours later she was admitted to the hospital (she needed to wait for a room to open up). I had just had breakfast before I picked her up so I did not bring food with me. I was afraid that if I went out to get some food during the day I would miss speaking with the doctor. I did glance at the contents of the vending machine but there was nothing I was willing to try. In fact while my mom was in the hospital for 4 days I was there to see her menu choices and had a feeling if I ever have to be in the hospital I will have to have someone bring me food.
The good news is my mom is home and has bounced back pretty well (as well as an 86 year old can). Turns out the fainting was due to dehydration.
Happy fall everyone. The leaves are just beginning to turn beautiful colors around here.

Judy,
Glad that your mom is okay, and you are so right about what is offered in the vending machines. Had a similar experience when my GF broke her hip. Food choices not much better in the cafeteria either.
I have certified GF bars, but had not brought any with me, so it was a bit similar situation and I wanted to wait until after surgery to find out prognosis etc. It is good that your mom had you around.
I think that you are right about needing to have someone bring you food if you ever need to be in the hospital.
Anne, glad to hear that Grain Brain is a good read. It is on my wish list.
