    Little Free Library

Has anyone seen these or heard of this. I think it is a wonderful idea and I am in the perfect area of small secluded neighborhood with walking and riding families that I would love to put one up.

I will have to see what I can come up in the way of recyclable or free finds to make one. One for big people and one for little people.

Yes, great idea. You could put up an ad on Craig's List for your city or closest one to it and ask for free books in good condition. I bet you'd get a lot that way. Bon chance!

I'd keep it JUST for children though. Allowing unacompanied adults, by children, into your house is NOT a good idea. Put up a sign "All adults must be accompanied by a child". Sounds cute but is really VERY serious.

Barque hon it will be out next to the road. We have families that bike and walk throughout the day, usually all day in summer, and then as they are walking they can see what there is. I am sure there are other readers and once they understand that it is a sort of borrow honor system, which is what the little sign will say once I register it with Little Free Libray's national movement site. Then if they have books they can put some of theirs in when they 'borrow' a book. If you look at the site you will understand what it is. Some people put a little bench out next to theirs for the kids to sit and read but this is going to be out in the blazing sun. I am in luck because I already have a big packed full bin of books that I was using for Paperbackswap. I get them free from Freecycle.

I live in a little community of maybe 40 houses. It is a circle, one way in one way out. We are less than a mile from a Michigan State Police post and they can be here in no time.
Everybody knows everybody and if you come into the neighborhood for the first time and don't look like you are supposed to be here you better be ready to explain what you are doing here. In the less than 2 yrs we have been here at least 3, on my side of the circle, people have been pulled over, questioned and then asked to leave the neighborhood because they are not wanted here. Usually salesman. We let our children run the neighborhood because we know they are safe. Someone is almost always outside doing something in the yard and when we moved in the next door neighbor, who I have known cause my mom lived here, gave me a list of numbers for families in the area who have children so I would have no problem tracking my child.

It is awesome. A dream neighborhood almost hidden in the middle of the mall
district, surrounded by woods. We have deer, coyotes which has gotten bad, geese, wild turkey and all manner of beautiful birds. It is quiet, friendly, everybody is respectful of their neighbor so no major drama and amazingly all of the young people are very well behaved lol. Almost 2 yrs ago I lived in a house in the city 10 feet from M-21 for 17yrs, my boys couldn't even play outside by themselves and later my teen was afraid to walk in the neighborhood because there were always punks looking to start a fight. The backyard was maybe 40 by 20 feet lol. A dream to mow, now I have over an acre that I plan to spend the rest of my life perfecting .
