oh how nice to have a puppy. they are so playful aren't they? I am afraid you have already discovered that it will take some moving of things and all to keep that puppy from chewing on ornaments and lights and things a dog should not do. some dangerous. Lor you will be busy with both a fly swatter and that bottle of water trying to discourage that puppy I am afraid. But surely it will be worth it.
I am still missing my dog, boo-hoo.

Congratulations on your puppy!
When the puppy gets close to the tree, say "no," and then spray her lightly with water (carry a spray bottle around with you at all times
). She'll get the idea fairly soon.
Good luck!

We have Roxie. She is a miniature dashound. My DD bought some Bitter Apple spray at the pet store. For several years we have not put ornaments near the bottom of the tree. You see...we have an 8 yr old German Shepherd. Candie already knows not to go close to the tree..she learned that when she was a puppy. You see, John puts his old H.O. train set around the tree & Candie touched her nose to it & got a poke then stopped going (it only hurts at the moment, she was/is just fine.) When John gets home in a week or so, he will put up the train again...then it's Roxie,s time to learn. LOL (but smiling in an Awwwww way.Lorraine (lor)

Awww ... yep, that's what I was saying as I read your post.
I actually thought of putting up a fence (like 2" high) around the tree, but a train set works as well, obviously! I also thought of putting presents around the exterior of the tree (on the outskirts of the skirt) as a barrier.
Our cocker spaniel loved to lay on the tree skirt. She never messed with the tree or presents, she just saw a "blanket" on the floor and thought, "Oh, that's there for me."
Don't worry, Roxie will get the idea. Candie will clue her in!

She was 14/15, had bad hips, couldn't see good & cuz of that, she was kinda' mean.... quick to turn & attemt to bite (she was laying on my bed by me once & I musta' touched her with my leg & she jumped at me with fangs showing. I screamed & pulled my feet up to me & my son ran into my room.Lorraine (lor)
