Yes, I write allot but can you help

I have applied for several jobs but only one has called. Do they look at your college grades before calling? Mine were very bad. The thing is, it was in a way, related to epilepsy.

Lor, I think it would depend on the place of employment, how much time they have to research. if they ask you must be truthful though! you should be proud you went to college! this reminds me of a woman I used to know, she got a very good paying job as a private contractor for Boeing. she had LIED about having a degree! when they found out she was fired, then blacklisted from ever getting another job in her field. not sure if she got sued or not? how unfair for all the ones that had gotten their degree & missed out on the job eh?

I know you've wanted to work for a long time now Lor. hopefully you will get hired for holiday's @ a place you like & can work the hours for the bus, etc. you have life experience now & that counts. being dependable & honest count also. I wouldn't fret too much about college grades if I was you. I believe you are applying for retail jobs? having experience with customer's & being quick on the cash register will be what matters. good luck! (((hugs))) Pati

I think most places expect to train you these days Lor. I wouldn't worry about my college grades two seconds.

          Hi Lor,

Depending on the type of job a person wants they might look at the college grades another thing they look at today is a persons age and I have noticed if you are in your mid 30's or older a lot of places
don't want to hire a person that old unless it's just for a temporary job. I wish you the best of luck getting a job and May God Bless You!

Right Sue I'm 53. They want someone who might move ahead & someone less likely to get hurt (such as a bad back thus they fall off the ____ or like me, my legs kinda hurt when I squat & I'd just like to work in sales, where you might have to squat down & put some things on a lower shelf).

This days they want a "New Kid" out of college, they do not count experience and when we get to pass 40 then they do not call you. My husband has a job, where is he 1 person that speaks Spanish, which by the way is one stipulation from the contract, he took the account from scratch, raised to the best, trains everybody else and the clients, he is the 1 person that is dependable at the office, and to top it all of he is the "SUPERVISOR", but the employee less paid, everybody else make more $$ than him, and when he fought for it, the "Manager" (a young guy of about 28 years) told him that it is because he does not have any degree higher than an AB, because experience does not count. They actually wanted to move him out of that contract and give his position to a Young American Guy, no spanish speaker, because the guy has the College degree; but the client basically told them "IF JJ goes he will take the account with him" so either he works here or you are all out of a job. The American guy is pissed, the managers are upset and my husband dissatisfy, but the client is happy. Hubby has been trying to find another job and it is running into the same problem you are Lor, nobody calls him.

He actually went for a couple of interviews with BOA for a Manager position, and when the lady starting doing some sort of background check, called him back and told him that he was off the list, because he had lied on his application. When he ask how he lied, she said that the DATES of employment on his resume were off by days or months and he had lied about it. (Like you can remember the exact day that you left one job and started another). The years where fine, just instead of saying he worked from June 23rd, 2000 to December 31, 2003, he said he worked from May, 2000 to Dec. 2003, and she called him a liar.

They are also checking your Credit report, believe or not, if you credit is bad of Poor they scratch you as a candidate.

Lor, I know I've already suggested you do some volunteer work. here's another suggestion: rather than apply with a large dept. store why not visit some local shops that cater to older women? a shop owned by a local person? visit these shops & look around @ the people who work there, are they young or older?

I didn't know your age,now I agree 100% you won't be considered. it's not fair & certainly against the law but in these times it's reality.

I worked retail for years myself,it's not easy. standing on your feet all day for one-can you do that?

you might think outside of clothing also, how about a speciality gift shop? antique shop? pet store?candy shop?
