Is there a sensation that mimics nausea but isn't?

What I have daily, many times feels like bad nausea. I have been tested and in hospital twice now for it but no cigar. I still have it daily and it's just a misery. I have Meclizine but it is of little help.

Is there a sensation that could feel like nausea but is actually something else? I'd welcome any insight or ideas.

I do have high blood pressure and take Metroplol which actually seems to make it worse AND gives me stomach aches daily. I mean go lay down and curl up in a ball stomach aches. Do I really have to live like this everyday? Just to keep my bp down? This is NOT living it's just existing. Is it worth it?

I have high blood pressure and I'm on Linspril. Couldn't your doctor try something else beside what your on?

Maybe you have heartburn from the meds. Just a thought.
    Take care,

too bad that the metroporol does that to you. doc has my bp meds down to just 2 of those a day plus generic norvasc. he took me off the 100mg cozaar, all because of my 2 blood clots i believe. think it was making my heart or osmething work way to much. anyway only thing i can think of is Meniere's disease. it is my ears but in fact can an does cause anywhere from mild to can't even walk without help because of dizzyniss or upchucking for sure. That would be the 8th crainial nerve. Does your ears ever hurt, feel full, uncomfortable etc?

That is my only guess for now. I knoww you can sure be miserable. now for someone who spends all night trying to sleep, but does it durirng the day, i am READY to part company from hubby at niht time. yee gads, he has post nasal drip and doesn't caare or even know about his constant harking (loudly) all night long. I am use to being very stilll and quiteness!!! I am going to great lengths to get this blankery blnk sleep thing worked out and it is getting very old. Sorry for my ranting on your thread. Another thing menieres might do is give you a agrevating noise in one or both ears. mine is about constant but bothers me more at times. and this is one of those time, otherwise i'd not be quite as grouchy, LOL. Good luck with it all.

you are also right about the meclizine unfortunately. I hate it when i need it and they make me pay over the counter travel sickness price for those pills. too much for what they don't do.

        barque ,

well, i'm going to throw out a few opinions and a few suggestions. if you've done them, i'm sorry they haven't worked.

first, metoprolol, your blood pressure medicine, is highly unlikely to be causing your nausea. not one resource i have read has had nausea as a side effect of metoprolol use. i'm not saying it couldn't happen, it's just unlikely.

two, have you had your gallbladder removed? if not, i think a gallbladder function test might help. you'd have to ask your doctor.

three, i think i remember you saying you had an endoscopy (maybe not and my brain is fried ) and they found some inflammation in your stomach. did they take any scrapings? i had a case of h.pylori that caused me nausea everyday for 6 months before i had it checked out. this was at the same time my gallbladder was not functioning well, but the doctors said i was only "borderline" on my gallbladder function test results. so, i had the endoscopy and took the antibiotics for the h. pylori and felt somewhat better. than i had the typical right side shooting pains of gallbladder disease and the days of nausea. i had the gallbladder function test repeated and finally my function was below normal. i had my gallbladder out, no more probs.

four, emotional probs can cause nausea. i'm sorry your pet dragon died. the loss of a pet is very emotional. meclizine is NOT the only drug for nausea. if it's not working, keep bugging your doctor to try something else. sometimes you have to get assertive for them to listen to you :(.

five, i remember you saying somewhere that rubbing your arm got rid of a problem of yours. there is a trigger point to get rid of nausea:
        Pericardium 6
You can use a trigger point on the center of the wrist just below the base of the palm to reduce nausea. This point is known as pericard 6 or P-6, and is found between the two tendons on the inside of the forearm, about where your watch buckle typically would be. The January 2000 issue of "British Journal of Anesthesia" states that acupressure to this point has been reported to reduce post-operative vomiting. A reinforcing technique held on this same point for one to two minutes may notably reduce commonly occurring nausea in adults.

there is a kind of indentation there between those two tendons (straight down from between your third and fourth finger) that will make it easier to find that trigger point. you can google, "trigger points for nausea" and maybe find other trigger points.

i hope this has helped. i'm sorry you're going through this. i have gone through daily nausea when i had the h. pylori and the gallbladder issues so i know it's very unpleasant. i would suggest eating smaller meals, limiting meat and other fatty foods, like cheese, nuts, etc. and see if that helps.

KEEP BUGGING YOUR DOCTOR! there is a cause for this, he/she just has to find it!

Ive gone that route with my gastroenterologist. Had a colonoscopy and endoscopy and had 5 polyps removed and diagnosed with severe gastritis. I have little faith in him now. I am actually worse now than before. I bugged and bugged him for nausea meds and we have run the gammit, tried everything, nothing really helps. He "SAID" he took scrapings for H.Pylori and it came up negative, which he only "Said", it wasn't in the report they gave me when I was discharged. I got this answer when I actually asked if he did so I'm thinking he didn't.

I started smoking again, it seems to alleviate the nausea when it's at it's worst but maybe on the long run it may be making it worse, I just don't know. I know I should stop. I did stop for 8 months but started up again a few months ago.

Thanks for the pressure point, I did know of it and use it once in a while. Also there is one just under your toes, especially in the center of your foot. When I rub them I burp alot but that may just be me changing my body position and forcing it out, I just don't know that either but it does help most of the time.

I know what you mean joy about sleep issues. I get so nauseus sometimes I CAN'T sleep, I have to get up and have some tea, water, juice then rub my feet, eat some Tums, have a couple cigs and take a half a clonazepam so I can calm down and maybe go back to sleep, it usually works. But sometimes if I sleep too long, I have gone too long without my BP med and my thumping heart wakes me up. It's just awful. Then I feel like c rap all day.

I am going to try today to limit my cigs. I have had 4 so far and it's a little after noon. 2 around 7, went back to sleep til 11 and just had 2 . I will try not to have anymore til much later today.

I have noticed too if I wait too long to eat then it gets really bad. I read somewhere that bp meds screw with your blood sugar. I also read that bp meds DO cause nausea.

I need to lose 40 or 50 pounds, quit smoking so my bpn will go down to normal so I can get off all these meds but it's so hard to do when you feel this way all the time.

I want to try exercises but am afraid I might get dizzy too much. What do you think? :ambivalence:

i sure wish you had an understanding doctor when it comes to something for naseau. at my worse i finally got a prescription for promethazine. sine i cannot use phenegran supossitories because hands are just to dead to deal with those slippery things, he relented once. i know not to ask again unless just absolutely necessary. i skrimped with those until i know the remainders are past taking date.

and for all that i am against smokig, i also do understandthe powerful addiction smoking has. it sure must have been some kind of hold as even when my daddy was spitting up blood regular, he was still smoking. all this happened at a young age time of life for me so that is what prevented me from ever really wanting to smoke. i did howver try one of those tipped cigar type things when younger, and they weren't bad at all. and probably 4 or 5 altogether cigerattes. so just must not have een my thing, that and the fact I sat on the end of VA ward far too many days and nights with the patients along with daddy to ever forget the misery of that time.

I wish you well in beating ALL this bad stuff happening to your body now. It is absolutely just not right to be so miserable. hope doctor or some type person can help you so you can get relief and soon!

When I was a teen and lived with my mother, mealtime was always stressful. She picked that particular time to yell and nag at me so my stomach would knot up and I couldn't eat. I went to the family doctor and he gave me Centrax and it worked very well. I'm wondering if what I have now might be connected. It's a stomach tranquilizer but it does relax you and helps with anxiety and muscle spasms. I wonder if I should ask for it. I am wondering how it might interact with my bp med.

I am compunding my bp med ie; making a cream with a smashed up powdered tablet then applying it to my inner arm. It cuts down on the actual stomach ache I get from it and still works. I have discussed doing this with my NP AND a NP Compounding specialist and both were ok with me doing it.

They compound a lot of pain meds because they are so rough on the digestive system.

i would say ask the doctor. no one will do very well with naseau all the time. I can understand how arguing at mealtime certainly would cause stomach aches. back when both our children were younger thy had nervous type stomach problems. as an adult, son ended up with diviticulitis, very painful for him. I hate to see him when he is so miserable and cannot move without pain. Certainly the dotor should try something to help _ I hope so anyuway good luck

Been 8 or 9 weeks now since the stroke. I didn't have any physical therapy because the nausea was so bad I couldn't talk to arrange it so I did without. I actually needed help to find the help I needed but couldn't find that because I couldn't talk to arrange or explain it so I've been doing the best I could by myself.

Got most of my balance back and my vision is back, almost to normal.

This constant nausea may be the result of not only the gastritis but also the kyphosis. That's when your upper back bends outward, it's getting worse as I get older. Lots of terrible muscle spasms in my ribs and jaws, both sides.

I came up with a combo of OCDs that help with the nausea, 90% gone. It's a Zantac 75 AND a generic motion sickness tablet together 2 or 3 times a day. The nausea pops through if I forget but once I take the combo it is gone in about an hour and relief lasts 4,5 or 6 hours sometimes longer. I found Meclizine has too many side effects and doesn't work as well.

Today I actually drove for the first time. Just 10 minutes but at least I'm making progress. Up to now just the thought of driving terrified me.

                              Hi, nice to meet you.

This may sound dumb, but some people are helped by those acupressure wristbands which have dot[s] on the nausea points. I knew folks who wore them on cruises for sea sickness. Just a suggestion...
