I hope it will be a short stay for him. Maybe they want to get the swelling down faster than oral meds can do it. What is his Caring Bridge site? Tattoo

Neurosurgeon on call did a neuro evaluation. Travis had a CT scan this afternoon, bloodwork, and poked again to have an IV line installed, all with no complaining.
Travis just posted less than 2 minutes ago 11:26am 2/28/12
"I was to have lunch and if the pain is no worse I'd be on my way home after that. Should beat the bad weather up. Mom is freaking out. I'm glad to be going home! Nothing (bad) to be keeping me here."
Let me update you all here. I've been here less than 24 hours. Met with the surgeon and they see no reason to keep me. Will need to tilt the bed a bit more but otherwise thats about it. They didn't do anything new or odd while I was here. Did a second CT from the one conducted last Friday.
I'll be back here to see the doctor in about 10 days to have the stitches pulled.
Welcome back Travis. Glad it was nothing serious and that you will be leaving for home soon. This surgery causes one to need time to adjust to all the changes. Allow yourself that time which I know you will. Glad to have you back with us, your Braintalk family. Tattoo
Yesturday, Travis said "Been laying in a hospital bed since Monday evening. Wake ups every 2 hours including night for exams. Have had some of the nurses I had before. Expect to be here a little bit longer."
They did have to drill a second "temporary" hole for drainage. If the problems before pressure, fluid buildup don't go away they will have to do a shunt. Today should be the day the labs come in for the infection. Then it's building the pressure back and fluid back in the brain (but not in excess).
Well, they clamped the line. Yesterday the report came about the testing for infection...No infection thankfully. So now it's wait 48 hours and see how it comes out, then hopefully if all goes well so I can HEAD HOME.
I hope you are able to head home. I am happy to that there's no infection. What I hated more than anything is how the nurses had to keep coming in to check me over time after time, just like
you I wasn't able to get much sleep. Just take it easy on yourself and don't over do it when you get home. I don't know how you feel but I was wiped out for weeks and all I wanted to do was sleep
when I got home. I wish you only the best and May God Bless You!
The strangest thing started today. Rather than the drugs I've been on for pain, they are starting an odd one. Tramadol. I didn't think my pain was THAT bad. I have had problems (with the exception of a week ago or so) of pains being 5 or above on the scale of 1-10. The pain likes to be in certain areas; most they had operated on in the last month.
They JUST added it today. Likely I will be heading home today, but no guarantee. Will see surgeon later today.
