Has anyone developed Tardive Dyskinesia after stopping a med? I know you can develop it as a reaction to taking psych meds. I seemed to have developed it after stopping taking Latuda. It's been 10 weeks now and for the last week and a half I cannot keep my tongue still. It wants to constantly move around in my mouth, rubbing my teeth and gums. By the end of the evening it feels almost raw. I can control it if I concentrate. Doesn't happen when I sleep but psych doc says that is typical. He is going to send me to a neuro to see if there is something they can do. He said there are meds that can be taken. Just what I need is to take another med. I have read that it can go away. Am hoping that this is not a permanent thing. Articles say it can be.

That sounds miserable. I hope you can find a way to solve the problem. I don't know if you can develop the symptoms of tardive dyskinesia after stopping a med, and it sounds as if your symptoms came on about 8 or 9 weeks after stopping Latuda.I found this:

Usually side effects come on while you're actually taking the drug but Latuda may be different, especially if you stopped taking it abruptly:

Doctors are entirely too eager to prescribe the drugs that can cause tardive dyskinesia, IMO....Last edited by agate; 10-15-2021, 07:54 AM.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

Thank you Agate, I appreciate the links, very informative. I usually use WebMD as a go-to. I don't know why I didn't check there. I only just within the last couple of days have been looking a couple things up. At first I thought it was because I have two molars that need to be pulled and had a raging infection, thought maybe that was what is causing it but it has become very intrusive and I had a suspicion it was Dyskinesia. I have heard of it. And stupidly I stopped the Latuda cold. I know better, I don't know what I was thinking.

I think it could definitely be the teeth. Two infected molars sounds like trouble, and you just never know how your body might react to an infection. There might be some nerve somewhere that is being irritated by whatever is going with the teeth. it seems to me. Any chance you can get the teeth taken care of soon?SPMS diagnosed 1980. ((((((Chris)))))) ~
Please don't beat yourself up. Meds can alter our thinking and judgement. You know that, so please be kind to yourself.
I agree that a visit to the dentist would be beneficial. I need to do the same thing, but I am hesitant, because of COVID. Oral health is vital to systemic health. I hope you will be able to see a dentist soon.
Prayers and healing, positive energy on the way for you ~
