Undiagnosed and getting worried :(

Evening all, I am new here so would firstly like to say a big hello from Plymouth, England :).

I have a condition which is starting to worry me and which is seemingly impossible to diagnose so I am turning to the internet for help.

A few years back I was watching TV and I noticed something wasn’t right with my left eye it was kind of shimmery like someone had shone a torch in my eyes. This came and went over the next few months until one night I pretty much lost the vision in both eyes for a minute or so in a kind of pool of black and shimmering, I took myself to A and E thinking I was having a stroke but they found nothing but the doctor said he was sure it was an eye problem. I have seen a specialist who assures me after numerous visits and tests that the eyes and the nerves between the eyes and brain are fine. I have over the last 6 months started to get sharp pains in my left eye and occasionally the right and also strange dull headaches that seem to rob me of myself and make me feel like an empty shell and sometimes dizzy. I was referred to see another specialist in headaches who assures me this is a weird type of migraine with visuals but it’s happening so often and feels so bizarre I am sure he is wrong and I’m starting to get anxious etc.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry that you're enduring pain and vision issues. I'm not sure whether I have anything to offer you in the way of help, but I did want to welcome you to our community.

When you say that you've seen specialists, are you referring to an ophthalmologist for your eyes and a neurologist for your headaches? Among the tests you've had, were a CT scan and a brain MRI included? If not, then I suggest that you ask for those tests.

Hi, Richard,
I can't add anything to what Rose just said. I'd definitely be concerned enough to continue looking for answers, and that may mean visiting a couple of specialists and having more tests. I believe migraines can take the form you describe but we're not MDs here.

I had a teacher that got migraines that would blind him. When he had one coming on, he had enough warning from his body, that if he left school immediately, he could drive home before his vision was too compromised. So it could be a migraine.

Ow! That's awful. I had a teacher once with a similar problem. She would have to pull over and throw up on the way home too. She said her horrendous migraines made her more likely to have a stroke later on in life.

had shingles around eye and i sort of get migraines-did you have shingles and PHN?

My teacher did eventually have a stroke and was bedridden the last few years of his life.
