    Mike, thanks for explaining.

And Vicky, how could that cake you posted be against anyone's rules? Pretty soon it won't be there any more because I'll be on the outside of all of it.
I'll try to post the image I was having problems with in the Chitchat thread just to see how it goes now:

EDITED TO ADD (but I can't get this to show up below the image even trying Mike's suggestions): Looks as if the images are working better now. In fact all of the images in this thread that were showing up as links are now showing up as images. Many thanks!

Ok let's figure this one out shall we?

Going to put agates welcome image at the end of this line of text, and then put some more text below/after the image.Welcome[1].jpg

Ok now to add text below/after the image. If this works then this is how I did it Also for giggles I added the same image in a random spot in the following text

Step one downloaded the image to my computer (you don't have to do this if the image is already on your computer)

Step two clicked the "reply to thread" button and did not use the quick reply box (will try that next)

Step three typed the first two lines of text

Step four click the "manage attachments" button

Step five clicked the "add files" button

Step six clicked the "browse" button

Step seven selected (double clicked) the image I wanted to use Welcome[1].jpg

Step eight clicked the "upload" button

Step nine selected the "attach inline" option

Step ten entered the last bit of text
Question: Why can't I post links or pictures?
Question: Why can't I have a signature, avatar, or profile picture?
Question: What's wrong with my account?

Answer: You are in the "registered users" user group. This group is very limited in what it can do. This will annoy spammers to no end Just keep posting once you have been registered for 30 days and have made 11 posts your account will be "unlocked".

It's really easy to put someone on ignore and it's strongly recommended that you do so with people who's posts you don't like.

          Step 1 - log in
Step 2 - click on the "settings" link
Step 3 - click on the "edit ignore list" link on the left side of the screen
Step 4 - type (or paste if you copied and pasted it) the username of the person you want to ignore
Step 5 - click the "ok" button on the right of the screen

Easy peasy and will lower your blood pressure. One important note though, this won't hide quoted posts. It's an oversight on the developers part and it's not an easy thing to "fix." So if someone quotes someone you have ignored, you'll see the quote.

Alternatively when you click on a person's name and view their profile page, underneath their avatar, there is a option that says, "Ignore this person". Click that link and then click the yes button.

Let me know if the previous steps don't work for you.

A bit of text here and then I'll try the same image
Welcome[1].jpg and am able to continue the text after it when it's done this way.

However, I had centered the image:

and was having trouble getting text to follow it. This time the problem has been fixed. YAY!
I didn't have to go to Manage Attachments and didn't select Insert Inline this time, and it still worked.

But I'm having a problem inserting text below this emoticon [meaning the smiley face below]. The text keeps wanting to center itself even though it was just the emoticon I wanted centered. This could end up looking fairly odd in some situations. I highlight the emoticon and press the centering icon, and it looks OK, except that when it shows up in posted form, the text is centered as well.

Weird. Agate, I couldn't see those images when I was not logged in... just the link to them (blue, underlined text). Then I logged in and can see them within the body of the post without having to click on the links at all. Some kind of anti-spammer feature? Or just an annoying quirk?

Edited to add: Oh my, it is allowing me to edit my post, even though I still only have 8 responses since the new forums came up.

I logged in. Saw only the link in posts #19 & 21. Clicked on the link. Log-in box appeared. Re-logged in. Then image showed.

Thanks, Kira and Parsi. I tried logging out and found that only the Photobucket images in this thread were showing up as images while I was logged out.

It's possible that the board has been set up so that you don't get certain features unless you're logged in--just as you don't get certain features until you've posted 11 posts and been registered for 30 days but I'm guessing.

That is correct, guests are not allowed to see attachments or thumbnails. They will see photos hosted on 3rd party (photobucket etc ) sites.
This line of text will be inline and before the attempt to center an emoticon

while this text is after the centered smiley (hopefully).

Ok that worked, due to the length of the sentence it wrapped into the next line. Don't use the center button if you want the results I got, instead use [ center] stuff here [/ center] removing the spaces.

                      Shorter sentence with

centered smiley, looks like all text after a centered smiley will be placed on the next line. Last but not least a centered smiley with no text using the center button.

Question: Why can't I post links or pictures?
