    C-Reactive Protein

Had some lab work done recently - was ordered by my internist. Advised c-reactive protein is high and is probably due to my MS. I am getting the report and sending it to my neurologist. What sort of follow-up is done for this? I also wonder if it's a result of my MS.

    Hi newone,
Sounds as if it could be related to MS because a high C-reactive protein level indicates inflammation somewhere in the body. I found this:

    SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

When I was first DX, many years ago, my Neuro found high protein in my spinal fluid and said that this was a sign of MS/demylienation.

agate is right, a high C-reactive protein means an inflammation somewhere in your body.
I'm not sure if having MS can make it high. But my question is what was the Doctor looking for when he ordered the test? Because he shouldn't just say it caused by your MS if he was thinking of something else when he ordered it. Sometimes signs or symptoms of other problems can be overlooked because it is easy to blame the MS. Now he may have ruled out everything else and decided to call it a problem of the MS. But it makes me curious.

I'm curious also. The test was ordered by my GP - since I got the results I've been told to call in each morning to see if they could fit me in for an appointment. I sent the results to my neurologist yesterday and asked for her to review them as well. Lab says 1.00 -3.00 is average (below 1 is low) and above 3.0 is high - my result is 4.88.
My vitamin D was 32 two years ago - this year (after taking 2000mg every day it went up to 40, which according to the lab is normal (they indicate normal range is 30-100).
