she also used neuromuscular electrical stimulation in addition to diet and exercise. the physical therapist tried the device on me, but the nerves were shot, and wouldn't conduct the current. arms worked, but no go on the legs. said she sees this a lot in MS patients.

i'm inching into this way of eating - it's good, but a-lot-of washing. and i don't like the idea of liver. it's practically like nuclear waste to me.
well, nothing succeeds like success. it's not known whether her protocol works in others w/MS, but to try it's not like taking a drug. i have her book, minding my mitochondria. it's very good, but somewhat expensive. if you search terry wahls on youtube, u can see her 6 part talk on food as nutrition. i know i'm impressed, & thought others should know @ it.

    cheers,
    H.

Herodotus, I watched the video. Very Impressive, and I am talking about her recovery. If it had not gone on so long I would not be as impressed, but once someone has declined for a decade it usually is pretty permanent, or so I thought.

Thanks for posting this. I will have to mull over what changes I am going to make in my diet. That is a lot of greens and fruits. I think it would be pretty hard to fill satisfied, but I might be wrong.

thank you, SPS, and hearty congratulations on your new chair in the van! i feel sure dr. wahls must have run across this in her research, as lipoic acid and carnitine are 2 of the few supplements she suggests to take. i ran acoss this myself (on the web of course). dr. ames is a professor @ UC berkley.

i take the r-lipoic acid, as it does not tear the stomach up like alpha-lipoic.

        here she is on facebook:

          Book Cost

It has worked for her and is worth a trial. The book however is overpriced for a little over 200 page paperback. I'll have to get the information from the other sources. I was able to go to amazon and read a lot of the book there. Still not worth $40.00.

right you are, Gabriella.......the info can be had from many scources. it's essentially the paleo diet, i believe. i find this site most interesting, & from what i can see, tracks well w/the wahls protocol.

u can find MS in the right index column as well. from what i've read, omega 6 fats are really inflammatory, along w/sugar, starches and trans fats. it seems that even if one consumes healthy foods, these baddies can negate any good effects, and prevent improvement. i often thought, if it's up to, (or partially) diet, why is it that, when genes have been pegged to susceptability, food could have any effect at all? dr. wahls, and other docs i've read, reference epigenetics. they say food can influence which genes are switched on, and off. so that convinced me that maybe there's something to it.

            cheers, H.

Herodotus, can you eat all these vegetables from the frozen foods? Maybe cook them a little and add a little olive oil? That might not be as bad as having to fix all fresh ones though I realize the fresh is good.

Good that I love kale cause there is a ton of kale involved here.:) Literally pounds of it.

I read everything that I could find including her mitochondria lecture, her whole story, and food as medicine. It's a major committment and a lot of work.

I've tried to take things that are possible for me (no liver) and work them into an already good diet.

She is an awesome person and I appreciate all of the research she has done and that she shares it.

                  I bought the book

$38 bucks was well worth it. Pretty cheap price to get a kick in my butt to actually try something that's not gonna hurt me and might possibly help. Lots of what she says makes total sense. I'm on my third week of slowly but surely easing myself into this change. Biggest thing for me was giving up sweets, cheese and bread. Plus eating the wads of fresh organic veggies is a bit of a challenge too. I've found grain fed beef and organic chicken breasts at Costo. Guess, we'll see :o

I am willing to listen to anything new. I don't necessarily buy into it but it certainly cant hurt. Except the electro stimulation. I have had some negative experiences I guess I am fouled up nerve wise as I flopped around like a fish out of water. I had the conduction study and could only get about half way through it. It hurt so bad I literally screamed. My wife was in the room and afterwards she said if you had not stopped I was going to stop it myself.

I have tried a few different diets and I cant say that it helped my MS. But I think that there are a lot of benefits from eating a more healthy diet that we are not aware of. I do notice that if I gain weight that my joints will give me some trouble. And yes I am one of those annoying people that can loose 10 lbs without trying very hard.

I wasn't expecting to see/feel something overnight or even over a few weeks. All I know is just getting the crap out of my diet...nachos, ice cream, sweets, etc. will make anyone feel better MS'er or not. I never overdid the crap, am not overweight, but can honestly say I feel better. How??

I'm now doing 35 min. a night on my eliptical (sp) machine instead of the usual hard-to-make-it 20 min. My left side is my worst and I can now lift my left arm up a few inches higher over my head. Baby steps I know, but still..........

I meant to call the beef at Costco that I bought "grass" fed instead of grain fed. As I mentioned before, what Wahls preaches is to stop eating all the toxins/poisons that are in the majority of the foods available to us today. They may be tasty and convenient, but once you get them out of your system how could you not feel better?
