was reading the Ray Peat article Multiple sclerosis, protein, fats, and progesterone. it stated that pork and horsemeat consumption were linked to MS! this was so wild i did a search, & look what popped up....it's long, & is 3 links, but wow...........

Gee Herodotus, does this mean I have to give up my occassional pork tender loin? I've already given up other forms of pork, but I thought that the tender loin was not really bad for us, especially if it is only eaten once in awhile.

I'm not so sure that pork it the problem. I have lived in many countries where chicken and pork were raised in the back yard and eaten regularly by most everyone. The MS rates in these countries is not high.

What are the MS rates with observant Jews or Muslims? They don't eat pork. I'd be interested to know their stats.

MaryLiz, I live in a Moslem country. I don't know what the rates are here, but I do know that there are people who have it. I know 2nd hand of 3 people. There is a MS society. Awhile back on this (?) forum a Iranian postage stamp recognized the society/condition (don't remember which one -- blame it on holes in the brain). The country produces and distributes its own interferon beta-1a. So I would say that it is not rare.

Parsi, when were you DXed? Were you still living in The States or in Iran? If you grew up in the USA, then you likely contracted MS from this environment, rather than Iran's?

I was dx'd in Iran; grew up in Wisconsin.

The question was about observant Jews and Moslems (who would not have pork in their diets). My answer was about Moslems, born and raised in a Moslem country, and what is here in a Moslem country. The 3 people do not include me. One was the teenage son of DH's co-worker. One is a relative of a near neighbor. One is the ex-DIL of a friend. I had met all 3, so it's not hypothetical people that I heard about.
