?optic neuritis? what to do NOW

For the last five days I have been having on and off
mild pain or pressure behind either left or right eye.

I am shell shocked from this winter and not confident
    about making medical decisions.

    Today is saturday.
Do I go to the ER (now called ED, chuckle) or... wait until monday
when there is an easy >50% probability of going to the ER?

Last time I went to the ER for ONeuritis, dec 24, 2010, I was sent by ambulance
    to my big city hospital.

If you MS intelligentsia have solid advice please disclose ASAP.

    I'm scared.
My vision has not been noticeably affected but so what.
I know what can if happen if I were to wait when I shouldn't.

    Thanks.

    Hi renee,

It sounds as if you've had bad experiences with ON in the past. Also, given your recent serious health problems, maybe it's better safe than sorry.

Have you tried calling the ER to find out what they think? They may or may not have a doc on board who can take an informed look at the situation.
    SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

      Hey Agate-
Thanks for talking sense to me.
I called the neuro specialist office at Big hospital and they actually! have a doc on call.
So that is what I do next.

If they think things are cool for now- these people are not lackadaisical-
I get to do my taxes. At least that is normal.

      Thanks for the grounding, A.

Oh yeah. I didn't win the big lottery.
      Then again, i didn't buy a ticket.

Same here, Renee. Don't these silly people read minds?

Letterman said last night that the odds of winning were the same whether you bought a ticket or didn't:)

Renee, I have found that Sunday AM (after 8AM when 12 hour shifts change) is a good time to have a short wait in the ER. I hope things work out well for you.

                Hi peeps-

I drove to the big hospital ER pronto. Virtually no wait, I was first seen by an opthmalogist, then two neuros
including the one I had talked to on the phone. They delivered me to a massive MRi and was admitted.
MRI's showed no new brain cheese or inflamed optic nerves but I got 3 days
of solumedrol drip. I left there tuesday after lunch in time to work a pleasant evening shift
and got my 6 day taper down.

These people don't mess around. A good preemptive strike.
                I feel safe and secure.
I already have follow ups with my neuro and the a yearly scheduled appt w/ a neuro op.

Thanks for helping me get my tuckus to the hospital.
My confidence has been way down and it was a major boost to have an intense but
short and sweet and successful experience for a change.

                :>)))))))

                Again, gracias.

So glad you let us know what is going on. Sounds like you got pretty good treatment, which is nice to hear. Sorry about the good "ole" solumedrol having to be used - not great fun, but then the possible alternative would be worse.
