    MS & Lukemia

    Hi Folks,

I usually post on the epilepsy page but I was wondering if I could get some info. from you. I was wondering if lukemia or the treatment for lukemia could cause MS. I have a friend that has had lukemia for 3 yrs. now
and has had to have a lot of treatment and surgery and I just found out today that my friend now has MS on top of lukemia. I had an aunt who had MS but she got it from her family genes. Is there a possibility that MS
could come from cancer treatments? I thank you for your time and help. May God Bless All of You!

    Hi Sue,

Sorry about your friend. There is no known cause or cure for MS. And even antidotally, I have never heard of leukemia causing or being associated w MS.

I suppose that some of the chemo treatments for MS might cause leukemia many years later but not the other way around.

    Nice to meet you,
    ANN

      Hi ANN,

Thank you for the info. I greatly appreciate it. I guess what's so hard about this is this friend of mine got lukemia in 5th grade and now my friend is in 7th grade and has MS. I work with my friend in public school
and I just wish I could do more to help. Thanks for your time and help. May God Bless You!

        Hi Sue,
It's a shame about your friend's two diagnoses. I agree with ANN though--nobody has figured out the cause of MS though they have a lot of theories.
        SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

          Hi agate,

Thank you for your time and support. I'm going to try to see if a Deep Brain Stimulator (DBS) will help my friend with MS and lukemia. The DBS helps kill the pain which I'm sure will help a little.
Thanks for your time and help. May God Bless You!
