Off topic....10 hours and 4 guys working...leak after leak

So new dishwasher installed...leak from turning old pipe knob seemed fixed and then leak kept going..decided it was from garbage disposal so 15th trip to get to a store before it closed and get new one. Installed. All seemed ok and all workers left.

oi-vez! Turned on new Bosch and after 10 minutes got error code-24. Thank heavens for the internet. So found possible causes. Kept researching. The deal is that it might be a plug left in the installed disposal that needed to be popped out because it is used with an attached dishwasher. If not that, then the electricians who installed the dishwasher did not remove a plug in that hose that needs to be removed. Both plugs are tough to pop out because we have to maybe remove the installed items to punch out the plug.or, it could be real easy.

in the meantime I discovered when taking a shower that water is not full force and remember one worker trying to stop a leak by turning something in the cellar that is different from the main water supply to house. I remember where he said it was but that is all I remember and it might not be the problem. So, when John gets up this morning there is more of a problem than he thought when he went to bed. Ugh. When he overdoes anything he gets so pale and haggard looking.

arrggghhhh! Darn! I just want something to work correctly....

but, hey! I did learn to use my iPhone to take a picture of a code on the inside edge of the dishwasher door and text the picture to a 5 digit number and it registered the diswasher! I am learning!

How tiring and frustrating! Congratulations on your achievement, Linda--that process of taking photos involves quite a bit of close work and manual dexterity.

Yes, the Internet is a great resource at times like that. I've found a lot of good information online when having toilet problems as well as just about any other problem--crochet stitches I can't figure out, how to care for plants, you name it.

maybe by the end of today things will be fixed....but I do not think so after I discovered leak in cellar dripping from one of the pipes related to something we fixed yesterday.

by the way, I cannot spot the like button which I did see yesterday..?!

That Like button must have been there for at least a short time recently because a Like was recorded on one of Mike's posts from today.

This place is full of surprises. The admins are tinkering with things behind the scenes, I believe, and so things may be changing in odd ways for a while as they make adjustments here and there.

Ok...the saga continued for another day. Leaks sprung up and so the fellow who came back to pop that plug out of the new disposal line managed to help when I found a big dripping leak in the cellar. So I ordered a new kitchen sink faucet and Monday he will come to install that and I will empty the water bucket in the cellar twice a day. This guy managed to slow the leak coming from the kitchen faucet and traveling into the cellar....originally I would have had to move into the cellar to empty the pail on time!

so all is set. All is arranged. Yea! I’ll go take a nice long shower. WHAT!!!!??? No hot water. Down to the cellar. The red light indicating that the water heater is on standby is glowing. Back to Google. John and I read about possible causes. Nothing I tried worked....we called our neighbor (same fellow who drives John to Boston for hospital stays). I had read enough to know what I was trying to do and he was experienced enough to try and reset it. Took about 2 hours but...hot water! One of the original electricians had turned off something the the water heater had drained its water and shut itself off to save itself! (I understand this concept)

so, the all around retired builder who is returning to fix a leak that he stabilized and replace the kitchen sink faucet has now asked me to lose his phone number (I hope he is joking and really did like us).

now, what are the lessons I have learned? When you have a problem forget about the instruction manual and use Google. All I did when the dishwasher showed an error code on our first washer try ....I just put Error-24 and Google immediately shows you a dozen places to go where people have been asking about that code. Wonderful humans have shared their knowledge and give clear directions.

secondly I relearned that if some link directs you to YouTube you should go there because more wonderful people will show you pictures of how to follow the written directions. I spent time looking for a second red reset button that I never would have found from the written directions because I had to remove a second cover that I would not have touched If not for the YouTube video someone posted.

thirdly, I am grateful for Amazon as I was able to search and research kitchen faucets....just yesterday...and it is arriving today.

finally, I have learned that I am over the bad vaccination reaction!

It's great that you can think of this as a Learning Experience, Linda, even though you're busily hauling buckets around and having to come up with ingenious ways of cobbling the plumbing parts together just to take a shower.

Search engines (Google in particular) are a truly great resource, I agree about instruction manuals. They're often poorly written and those illustrations are maddeningly inaccurate and hard to figure out. (I hang onto every one of them anyway.)

I hope things will calm down for you. Hauling buckets around might count as exercise but enough is enough.

Linda, what a GREAT time (not) you are having. Sounds like some of my experiences. I have found google and u-tube invaluable in getting myself out of trouble. Doesn't always work, but does a lot of the time. So glad it did for you. Good thing this happened after your recent episode with the vaccine illness.

Maybe you can relax now and enjoy your Easter. You have earned it.
