    Keep On Moving: July 2021

MS creates some real challenges to keep on moving. It helps to inspire each other on how to find ways to move.

Did you stretch in your bed, swing your arms, roll side to side today? Or perhaps you did housework? Or exercised in a pool? Tracked your count of steps? Chased your cat around the home? Pushed the wheelchair wheels with your arms at the store? Post them here and we can support and egg each other on.

REMEMBER: this is a keep on moving thread, not keep on exercising! Any moving is important it doesnt have to be exercise! Even Science proves that

Sunshine, sorry about the swimming, but I guess you know when they are thinking you will be able to.

That sure is a great step count to begin the month.

Thank you for starting up a July Keep Moving thread, Sunshine!

I've been less active in the last couple of days while taking it easy after the vaccine. Felt a tiny bit off and took Tylenol regularly and tried not to overdo. But the step count wasn't good.

Well, in the past several days I dug 6 handlebaskets of new potatoes. It is taking my body time to adjust to the workout routine but I did it!

              Sunshine ~

At some point, you will be able to swim again, I hope. It is such good therapy. And you started off with an excellent step count! It's a marathon, not a sprint, right?! How is the pump working for you? Are you getting relief?

Are you concerned about Hurricane Elsa approaching Florida? I'm thinking of and praying for you and Jeanie.

              Agate ~

I think you are wise to take it easy after the vaccine. Evidently, side effects can creep up on us. I'm sorry though that you've had to take Tylenol. In addition to the vaccine, you had quite a bit of an outing to get it, and it has been hotter than Hades in your neck of the woods. Stay cool, relax, and build up your resources.

              Linda ~

Awesome! I don't know how you do it!

              Virginia ~

When I read about your shopping and carrying your groceries upstairs to your home, I am always amazed at your energy. I know it drains you. What is the latest on your thyroid level? And how is your blood pressure?

Today, I realized that the walk from John's car in the parking lot of the store to the back of the store to get my first Pfizer dose, then back to John's car is the greatest distance I have walked in 8 or more months. I didn't think to wear my pedometer, but I will when we go for my second dose. Who knew that getting a vaccine could also be good exercise?

Prayers and moving inspiration for all!

              Love & Light,

              ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Rose, because I have been so fatigued, I too am wondering what my thyroid level is. I am anxious to find out when I return the end of this month. My B/P is not good and sometimes goes pretty high even when I have been relaxing. I'll see what she thinks of it all later in the month.

                  July 1 1028 steps
                  July 2 1027 steps

This takes grit: My legs feel like theyre fractured during the walking, but not spasm prone, so walk I go until the shins start to wiggle.

No the pump is no help at all yet. They have it set so low. I will talk with Neuro about it in 2 weeks and ask if the pump doc is just moving judiciously in teh modest increase or whether we can do better.

The latest is that I can swim in almost 4 weeks: The RN said I look good to go, but the pump doc casually said, “Wait 4 weeks” , last week.

June average was lower than May (1360) but not by much: 1,325 steps (based on 27 days)

                      I don't think I walk 1,325 steps in 27 days.

Jingle, remember that everyone has different lesion location and loads, what is impossible for one person is not so hard for another!

Yesterday I took 1172 steps between 4:30pm and 7:30 PM. The rest of the day was in the wheelchair as usual.

jingle, you might be surprised at how many steps you're taking just going through whatever routines you go through, even if it's just walking to and from a kitchen for meals.

Agate, you did really good in June.

I just don't know how Sunshine walks that many steps in 3 hours. I think it is amazing.

Forgot to add: Yesterday I went to the pharmacy which turned out to be closed. I went on over to Harris Teeter and got 4 items. I came home and my youngest brother picked me up late about 4:30 and took me to his daughter's house for a cook out. We got home about 8:30 or 8:45. I didn't do a thing down there, but last night and today I have been just dead tired. Glad I went regardless. They waited on me and this is my youngest brother who insist on taking me by the hand or tightly by the arm when I am out of his car. He is so good about this. I always feel safe, which is something I rarely feel anymore.

Hey Virginia, so glad you feel safe with your brother. I know that feeling very well…
Yesterday I walked 1172 steps at the end of the day, in bouts of 100 steps at a time.
The rest of each day, I am lucky if I take two steps, or stand for more than 30 seconds without spasming.
