Anyone here getting a booster vaccine

I will be due to Immune Deficiency syndrome

Going to Doctor, but I am pretty sure I will be due to age and 21 years on an interferon. Let us know when you get yours Sunshine. We definitely want to know how you do with it.

I don't plan to get it. I'm being very careful about masks and distancing, and I had the vaccine only recently (June 30). Also I have very minimal contact with people.

This article states that all Americans will be able to get boosters, once the FDA approves the vaccines officially. Boosters will be available to people 8 months after their second dose of Pfizer or Moderna.

Israel has been offering a coronavirus booster to people over 60 who were already vaccinated more than five months ago.
Like you, agate, I had my second dose on June 30, which means I'll have to wait until January or March 2022 to get a booster. I know you had the J&J vaccine, and I haven't read anything about a booster for it.

Also, like you, agate, I have very little outside world contact. However, I have many things I need to do requiring me to be out in the world. So, I wish I could have the booster sooner. I just pray that I have a decent level of immunity until then, but I have no way of knowing that.

Scary times ... be safe and stay well everyone ~

SweetChoco, I'm sure that people here will respect your choice.
I'm not sure whether the vaccine booster is going to be mandatory. I have an impression it will be voluntary.

I’ll get a booster as soon as it’s recommended for me.

You count 8 months from the 2nd shot you had and that’s when you can get the booster. That will be the case for everyone. 8 months after previous shot. Shots will start nationwide in September.

In my earlier post I said I didn't plan to get the booster--meaning that I didn't plan to make an effort to get it on my own initiative. Like ANN, I'll get it if/when it's recommended for me. I was assuming it might not be recommended for me because I had the J&J vaccine, and nothing has been decided about it yet. Since I got it so late (end of June), 8 months would mean late February, and by then the situation may have changed.

I should have phrased my post like this: I’ll get the booster ( Moderna) at the recommended time. For me, that will be on or after 12/1/21.

Not yet at least as I'm not even eligible. I want to see if there are extra size effects with shot 3.

I am interested in extra side effects also, but let's not forget that other countries such as Israel have been getting them for awhile. My 2nd shot was on 2/23, so guess that means 10/23 for me.

When a booster becomes available for me I will take it. I doubt that the Delta variant is the last variant we will see.

The FDA is giving full approval of the Pfizer vaccine possibly on Monday, which will open the doors for booster shots. Perhaps the FDA approval will give some people, who have been reluctant to get the vaccine, more confidence in its safety.

Some controversy exists regarding giving boosters to everyone, while many still haven't had their first dose of the vaccine. However, if the booster can't be given until 8 months have passed since the second dose, then it will be limited to people who were vaccinated in December 2020. So, there shouldn't be an overabundance of people seeking a booster at the same time.

Based upon the 8 month waiting period for the booster, I don't think any of us here qualify for it now. That will give us time to see how the first eligible recipients respond to the third dose.

I mentioned in another COVID thread that my friend had her booster shot a few days ago. It had only been 6 1/2 months, since her second Pfizer dose. So, her pharmacist was not following the 8 month rule.

Here is an article about the 8 month rule, compared to the over 5 month rule in Israel:

Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register...

The concern is for people, who are elderly and/or immunocompromised, as cases of breakthrough COVID among fully vaccinated people are rising. No one knows exactly what their immunity level is after both doses. Apparently, those of us in the older and immunocompromised categories are at the greatest risk of not getting sufficient efficacy from the vaccine. Hence, the booster shot.

Remember when we first heard about COVID? It was described as a "novel coronavirus." Nothing was known about it, so it has been a "learn as we go" process since then. And, we still don't know what caused this virus initially.

While we are battling the delta variant, experts are worrying that the next variant will be worse.

                        Prayers for all ~

There are already quite a number of variants. I've hear the lambda variant mentioned recently in particular. From the British Medical Journal (August 19), "COVID-19: How many variants are there, and what do we know about them?"
