Weighted blankets (did we discuss them here a while back?)

If I remember right, weighted blankets were discussed here at one time. I didn't know much about them (still don't) but this article in the recent Consumer Reports has some information and suggestions ("We Tested 5 Weighted Blankets"):

I was asking about them one time on here. I did get one and made the mistake of getting a real nice one, thinking that because I am so cold and because I have anxiety that I would use it. Mine was quite heavy and really too heavy for me to handle. Also, after getting it I read that older people and young children should not sleep under them. I gave it away to the lady who helps in the house. I told her she could use it or sell it. This doesn't mean they are not good it just means that this one was too heavy for me.

Now that I've seen what one looks like, I'd have real concerns about the weight too.

And it's made of "quilted squares filled with glass or fabric beads"? What if you happened to puncture one of those quilted squares? Wouldn't those glass or fabric beads scatter all over the place?

I just know that would happen to me.

Before "weighted blankets" were invented, what did people do to add weight to their blankets? They added more blankets on top of them!

Think of native tribes, people who live in unbelievably cold regions, pioneers ~ they didn't have glass or fabric beads. They had the hide and fur from animals and whatever they wove.

From Jon, Michael, and Jim, I learned that there can be too many or too little blankets at any given time.

I gather that the point of the weight is comfort? Is it to prevent being cold or is it to be like a swaddling? Either way, I think both can be achieved by adding more blankets.

That's just my opinion, of course.

Makes all kinds of sense to me, Rose.

From times when I've had to pile on more blankets, I've noticed that added blankets mean added warmth but there comes a point where the weight of the added blankets is just too uncomfortable. But at least I haven't had to worry about the blankets accidentally spilling little glass pellets all over the room.

No fun to clean that up in the middle of the night, and you would feel compelled to sweep up the worst of it at least--so you wouldn't walk over the pellets and fall.
