Snail mail gets even slower as of tomorrow, October 1

A notice from my bank alerted me to this. Snail mail will be a couple of days slower from now on, at least for mail going any longer distance than local mail.

I get my prescriptions by mail and I already worry about how long they set in the heat.

I am so grateful I can still drive, and am so close to my various destinations. Well, except my Doctor's office, but I don't go there but a few times a year.

CVS, and my grocery store are only a few miles away. And there is a hardy hardware store in the same block as my other two destinations. I feel very fortunate.

Tomorrow is payday, and I will stock up so I can stay in for quite a while. I keep a supply of masks in the car.

Thank you for sharing this news. Timing is everything ~ right before holiday season! If we plan to send any cards or gifts this year, I reckon we better get our acts together right now!

I have my doubts about the current Postmaster General, who was appointed by the last administration. I read through all of the stuff on the link you provided, and I just wonder how we're being scammed. While telling us that our mail will be delayed and their postal rates will rise, they gild the lily with how they are still going to be reliable and meet our needs. I call "Malarkey!"

There are plenty of carriers for packages, UPS, FedEx, etc. Perhaps the USPS should just handle envelopes and small packages, which can go in envelopes. Why not pare down their services, instead of competing with large corporations?

Oh well, if Congress can't come to an agreement tonight, the government will shut down tomorrow anyway.

Yes, since slowness is the trademark of snails, the competition would be who among the snails is the slowest. Now, that is a race I might be able to win.

Many times on my morning walks, when I took a rest, I watched snails crawling out from the grass onto the sidewalk. They are fascinating, as they methodically, rhythmically, determined and courageously, keep going. Destination? The grass on the other side of the sidewalk. They gave me strength to get up and continue my walk.

I am glad that your stores are in proximity to you and that you are still able to drive.

I think I'm still able to drive, although I haven't driven since November 2020, and that was in my van. I feel most comfortable in my van, but I am the incredible shrinking woman, and it's becoming difficult for me to get in and out and see over the steering wheel!

Always a good idea to stock up when you can. That's great that you have a supply of masks, and it's important that you wear them for your safety.

Hi Sam! I'm sure she will be happy when you return home with her feasts!

Howie, I am still able to drive in my neck of the woods to hairdresser, pharmacy, grocery store, bank, etc. I too feel very grateful that I can. I just wonder a lot how long it will take. The area I am in continues to grow and grow. My brother took me to his house this afternoon and we just got back. There is no way I could drive to where they live now. He said he would not let me drive it. He said I was in my own little world now and even though it is a very, very busy area now, I am use to it, but to get on the freeway or what he said was now the bigger world would be disastrous for me.

Jingle, what you said about worrying about your meds getting overheated is the exact reason that I do not have mine come by mail.

Jingle, I can understand being concerned about what temperature your prescriptions have been kept at in transit too. I experimented with getting rx's by mail for a while and had more than one instance where they arrived in a padded mailer that had burst open, and the pill bottles inside had been opened, and pills were all over the inside of that mailer, and probably quite a few had escaped completely by the time I received the package.

Also, I've had ordinary (non-rx) packages delivered that were so hot they almost burned my hands. I wondered where they'd been and for how long. If I'd ordered a pizza, I might appreciate it arriving piping hot but this wasn't a pizza.

agate, I have no choice about who handles my prescriptions. My prescriptions are sent to the Tricare (military) part of Express Scripts. The only way I could get them from a local pharmacy is to pay 100% of them myself. I complain a lot - but I am very grateful too.

Jingle, you never complain! You are quite as a mouse sometime. But if you have anything you want to complain about we are here as you know. Tricare is great and it is hard to complain about them at all. The price makes up for everything.

I've heard good things about PillPack but haven't tried it. Their ads make it seem as if the meds arrive in very well packaged condition, but those are their ads.
