In quest of the COVID booster

We've all heard the authorities saying, "Get those boosters! Get them NOW!"

I'm in particular need of a booster. I had the J&J vaccine, the one-shot vaccine, back in June, and more recently the word has gone out that it probably should have been two shots, but in any case, anyone who's had that vaccine was eligible for a booster two months after that one shot. I've gone for over 6 months now.

But is it so easy to get this booster? Yes, if you drive a car or have someone willing/able to drive you. Not so easy if you depend on the paratransit people.

On December 15 I was all set to get that booster at the same hospital where I'd had the first shot. The day before I gave a thought to just how badly everyone is goofing up and gave a call to them just to confirm it. Well no, they'd stopped giving those booster shots. No, they wouldn't be resuming them.
So I cancelled my rides and started again.

My doctor's office started giving the shots and so I signed up to appear there yesterday. I was assured by the paratransit people that because it was for a booster, my ride was "guaranteed." Then yesterday the weather was looking bad, and as the day ended not enough snow had melted, and what had melted was going to freeze over during the night. So it got cancelled. I cancelled that appointment.

Now I'm set up for January 4, with another of those "guaranteed" rides. Maybe the third time will be the magical one?

And I keep wondering how Linda did with her two shots of Evusheld--???

I had my first Modena shot April 7, my second May 5, and the booster Nov. 12. I became sick on Dec. 22 and yesterday was diagnosed with a fairly serious case of Covid . Tomorrow I go in for the monoclona antibody infusion.

I pray that the infusion helps. Will they test if it took?

My brother-in-law had all three shots, but he doesn't have any of the antibodies. I suspect that the treatments he had for cancer probably wiped out his immune system so there was nothing for the vaccine to activate. He and my sister are being very careful.

What an ordeal for you to get a booster! It looks like snow in your area will turn to rain by January 4. I hope it will work out well for you, and you can finally check it off of your list. Which vaccine are you going to have?

    jingle ~

I am so very sorry that you have COVID. Do you have any idea how you contracted it? Moderna is supposed to have the highest efficacy rate of the three vaccines. Unless we're tested for antibodies, we don't know how effective it will be for us.

Thankfully, you are getting the monoclonal antibody infusion. I pray that it works perfectly for you, and that you recover very quickly. Do you have someone who can transport you to and from the infusion?

Prayers, and healing, positive energy on the way for you ~

    Love & Light,

    ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hi Joan…I did not get the shots of evusheld at my infusion on Tuesday. I was disappointed and really expected not to get it at all. BUT today I got the call and will get the 2 shots tomorrow afternoon. Feels like I won a lottery.

I guess we can all expect to be bounced around quite a bit while everyone adapts to whatever this virus is doing at the moment. I'm glad you're going to be able to get the two shots of Evusheld, Linda!

jingle, that is really sad news--but I think you'll be one of the people who overcome COVID. I don't know why I think that but I do. Of the 6 cases here in this building, only one has died, and she was much older than you and had other health conditions.

I'm glad you're getting the monoclonal antibodies and hope they will help! Take it easy there and please let people know how you're doing.

Rose, I was so cheered when I saw that rain forecast. The Pacific Northwest is coming through once again with a winter that doesn't do what a midwest winter would do.

I'll be getting the Pfizer booster. That's what they're offering, and that's what I'll take.

Agate, what an ordeal. Good luck with getting the booster on the 3rd try.

Jingle, so sorry you are having to deal with this concern as well as being sick with it. Unusual that you have had two vaccines and the booster and still you have covid. I hope you do well with it.

Linda, we will all be anxious to hear how you do with the Evusheld. I am so hopping it will go well.

Agate, I’m glad to hear that you are trying hard to get your booster and sorry that it hasn’t worked out thus far. Fingers crossed.

Jingle, I’m very sorry to hear that you are sick with CoVID. I hope the monoclonal antibodies help you.

Linda, sorry that you have to make a return trip to the infusion center but hurray!

The 3rd try was the magic one. I've now had the booster shot and before you know it there will be some other shot to be had but in the meantime I'll be coasting along and waving my vaccine card at anyone who wants to see it. I could even wave the 9-page document I was given to read while waiting the regulation 15 minutes after the shot.

In those pages I learned that I was being offered either COMIRNATY or Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Heard of COMIRNATY? I hadn't but it's made by Pfizer. What I had was the Pfizer. COMIRNATY seems to be mainly a series for those 12 and older.

Congratulations, Agate! I hope it wasn’t an ordeal getting there and back.

                  Best to you,

                    Hi Agate,
lit is great that you got the booster. I think a fourth shot will be coming…and then perhaps annually (like the flu shot)
with all the politics and craziness surrounding the science I have been thinking about how amazing all these scientists are. What they created in such a short time frame saved us. Astounding.

what I understand is that the vaccine makers essentially used a platform that already existed and then adapted that platform for this new disease. Sometimes we forget how impressive people are!

                      Linda ~

You are correct, as the coronavirus has been around for a long time. COVID 19 is a "novel" virus. So, scientists have been studying this virus and its strains for years. Here is a link to the CDC about coronavirus:

Given your pain, breathing issues, and discomfort from your fall, I hope that you don't experience any problems from the ordeal of transport and getting the vaccine. I also pray that you have no side effects from the booster. Rest and take it easy. Don't feel that you need to respond to every post right now. Just keep us informed as to how you are feeling. Healing energy on the way to you!
