My brother is about 30 miles west of Boston and says that the snow totals being reported seem inaccurate to him. Reports say 20"+ but he measured 12" at his house and less actually covering the cars. While I feel for those without power, he is happily posting away on facebook in the aftermath of the storm.

I have no idea, but since we haven't heard from Linda, I am afraid she might be without power. I really hope not. I thought about Ann and Peter who have Peter's mother to take care of. I think their house has steps to all the bedrooms so I am not sure how they can take her there. If they go to her house it would mean leaving the cats.VirginiaComment

I think your brother should rely on the reports even though his measurements are quite different. The snow drifts in funny ways and can end up less deep in some spots and deeper in others. Linda, so glad to hear from you. This means you have power. Very smart move to have such a large generator installed and have it come on automatically. Don't know how much you have lost otherwise but I hope nothing. Sounds like you and John have at least stayed warm and pretty comfortable.VirginiaComment

Linda, I'm so glad you have a generator in case of a power outage. Some people here, including me, were strongly in favor of a backup generator for the building I live in because power outages can be pretty bad here, but that idea was nixed. We were told they don't work. I'm fairly sure they do work because I've heard of quite a few people who are happy to have them.

Hi Agate….we got almost no snow here in western MA. The winds were blowing the correct way so snow was blown off the vehicles and also for Moxie’s. Walkway! The wind created a few 1’ snow walls when the wind was flung against a tire or something else in its path.
my neighbor came and plowed all around the house and greenhouses. He makes the ground almost bare! Think of a painting where one lonely house stands out on a prairie. That’s almost me.
the generator was quite expensive and, on the other hand, very cheap. The greenhouses run year round and are full of plants/fig trees that are irreplaceable.
anyway,I watched an amazon Prime show and it is really good. The 3 main characters are autistic and live in an apartment. A caretaker comes in to check on a frequent basis But, the episodes are not about autism but delineate the existential questions we all face. The acting is superb and when I looked up their biographic information it was impressive. So…the name is something like “AS WE SEE IT” something like that. If I am too far off I will come back and correct it.Linda~~~~

SInce I have recovered from my illness I am washing my bed sheets/blankets/quilt, running the robo vacuum and airing out my bedroom.
It is still cold (30's) outside but it is sunny so my mood is improving. I have been a little down since my uti and respiratory virus and with trying to quarantine with the omicron covid virus spiking. It is supposed to be in the 40's for a few days starting tomorrow and I am hoping to get outside and walk. Being in nature always improves my mood. I am looking forward to spring this year!
I love my robo vacuum. I love that it is able to vacuum under my beds and couches. These are areas that have been neglected in the past. The only pain is making sure the floor and under the bed is clear so the vacuum can clean everything and not pick up anything (charging cords, etc.) that it shouldn't. I store much less under beds now than I used to so I can make sure the whole area gets vacuumed. I run it in one room (bedroom, livingroom, diningroom, etc) at a time and it usually runs for a little over an hour on a charge. I love emptying the dust container and seeing how much it has picked up in just one room. Does anyone else have a robo vacuum?
Lazurus, I would love to have a whole house generator but it is so expensive. We did buy a portable generator during the pandemic to run our freezers, refrigerator, small heaters and such if the power goes out. Fortunately we haven't had to use it yet!

So glad you've recovered, Snuggles! And it's nice that someone actually enjoys vacuuming.
I've never tried a robo vacuum but have seen videos showing how one of them works, and it looks like a highly improved way to vacuum. I'm still using a stick vacuum and sometimes my bigger vacuum that has attachments, but lately I've been so lazy that I just run the carpet sweeper around.
You mentioned cords. I wonder what would happen if the robo vacuum came in contact with a cord. I know that my old-style vacuums would suck up the cord, and I might have quite a problem then. Sounds as if the same thing could happen with a robo vacuum, or no?
I dislike cords.
I keep striving for a more cordfree life but people have been coming in here and "just" installing routers that have cords. Or some other things involving cords. I understand that you can have a cordless existence if you choose and are really up to date with technology but I haven't been inspired to go that route. I'll just go on hating cords--and trying not to let the vacuum eat them.
