I recently watched a 2013 movie, "The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came to Eden" that was mainly a documentary (I think) about a couple who went to one of the Galapagos Islands (Floreana) to live because apparently they wanted to get away from it all. They were German and left Germany (abandoning their spouses) in 1929. A very good time to leave, IMO, but the movie doesn't mention the rise of Hitler at all. It is completely apolitical but it tells a strange story.

MS plays a very small part in this documentary, but to my surprise the woman, Dore Strauch, had been diagnosed with MS before they left Germany. The movie shows some glimpses of her but she never seems to be limping or hobbling around. We do find out that the man she was with, Dr Friedrich Ritter (she had been his patient), firmly believed in mind over matter and apparently was constantly badgering her to plow forward and ignore her MS problems.
His attitude is by no means the focus of the documentary. Other people came to the island, some seemingly disciples of Dr. Ritter, and then there were mysterious disappearances of several of them.
It's an almost unbelievable story but it really happened.
SPOILER ALERT: Towards the end of the film we learn that in 1935 Dore Strauch left the island and returned to Germany. This would have been Nazi Germany but we're not told how she fared there except that she tried without success to publish Dr. Ritter's philosophical writings and that her own book Satan Came to Eden, was published in 1935. She died in Berlin of "complications of multiple sclerosis" in 1943.
