Don't you also have a brother who plays golf--at a championship level? I'm concluding you're a golfing family. Your sister-in-law must have made a remarkable recovery though it surely was an uphill battle for her.

You are so right! Every TV drug add advises, "Tell your doctor if you have ..." ~ diabetes, heart problems, allergies, cancer, etc. I always respond, "Your doctor should already know all of these things, before prescribing anything for you!"
I don't mind when the narrator says, "Ask your doctor if (this drug) is right for you." We should all ask that question, as well as "why is this drug better for me than other drugs?"
All we need to do is look at the prices of pharmaceuticals in the U.S. to know that Big Pharma has a truck load of money to sell their wares.

What an ordeal for your SIL and family! How wonderful that she recovered and is able to do so much now, when her prognosis had been so grim. They have had some huge challenges in their lives. I hope that the reconstruction of their home is progressing well.

Agate, this Nephew is the same one that you are thinking about. He belongs to my youngest brother Eric. The one who came on while I was sick. My Nephew was on the PGA tour for several years. He suffers from anxiety and went back to a lesser level. However he tried out for "The U.S. Open" and made it so he will be playing on the PGA again next week. I just hope his anxiety doesn't kick in. He keeps struggling away, and I don't want anything to make him get back where he was. He has been playing since age 7 and this is what he wants to do. I admire his determination to do what he has always wanted to do. My family, with the exception of me, loves golf. I played a little when I was young and then again shortly before I was diagnosed with MS. However, I was never bitten by the bug. I went with a friend on mild days after work and the one thing I did enjoy was just being out before dark walking the beautiful greenway.
Yes, the story of Eric's wife is quite something. She had driven her vehicle to a Bed Bath & Beyond store about a mile from my house. She was standing in back of it with the trunk open looking at something she wanted to match. The store is right next door to Home Depot. The parking lot from Home Depot to BB&B slopes. A man who owns a construction company parked a large jeep with a trailer hooked to it out in the parking lot from Home Depot. He neglected to put it in park or put the emergency brake on. It started rolling down the little hill toward where SIL was. She didn't know it because she was concentrating on what she was doing. It mashed into her crushing her legs. A man and a woman saw it. They ran and the man got the vehicle off her. The woman had had some trauma training. She got a belt from someone and tied it around my SIL's leg.. The first responders said it saved her life. She was bleeding out. That started a long battle to walk again, but she had good body strength and a lot of strength in her arms. She never even lost her job. She was executive assistant to the Chief Justice of N.C. Supreme Court. When she ran out of sick leave people she didn't even know donated their vacation time.
She had a lot of help. My brother got a handicapped van and would put her in the back because her legs were in metal braces and just stuck out in front of her. He had to put her in the hospital bed he rented, he or her Mother had to take her to the bathroom. You would never know all this now.

Sorry I misremembered (I often do) and thought it was a brother who is the golfer. Your SIL really had a near-miss, I'd say--and a car can be a lethal weapon. I'm really glad there were helpful people on the scene. People can be so very helpful. We wouldn't get very far or last very long without one another.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. What a terrifying accident! I can't even imagine the trauma of it all. I hope the construction owner of the Jeep and trailer paid all of her medical bills. There is no excuse for not setting the brakes on that kind of rig. I am so grateful that she survived and recovered so well. Angels are watching over her.
I will root for your nephew to do well in the the U.S. Open. I hope he will be able to manage any anxiety he feels.
Until I met Jim, I knew nothing about golf, but he was an avid fan of the sport, so we watched A LOT of golf on TV. Because Jim was a fan, I became a fan and got to know all of the golfers. Once, Jim took me to a 9 hole golf course near us, so I could learn how to play. He was extremely patient with me, but the other golfers waiting behind us on the course were not.
On the other hand, I was better at tennis than Jim. So, we were even!

Rose, the man who's jeep and trailer hit my sister-in-law had insurance on his vehicle as is required. The insurance paid her, but that didn't begin to cover everything. The man quickly got his house and everything he had put in his wife name. My brother and SIL saw a lawyer. My brother had what is called an umbrella policy that he had taken out. The lawyer told them in order to get it over with to negotiate with their own insurance company and they did. He said their health insurance company, which was BCBS was right there to collect a lot of what they had paid for all her medical care. There were others waiting in line.
Thanks for rooting for Grayson. Today is his older brother's birthday. Grayson picked me up to go eat with some of the family and a couple of close friends. His girlfriend, who had just recently made a trip here to Raleigh, had called him and broken up with him. Her reason was that she was afraid that he would break up with her in six months to a year from now and it would be easier now than to wait.
While I was typing this I got a call from the older Nephew. His Mom had been sick with a stomach virus and didn't go tonight. His Dad, my brother had started hurting last night in his legs and earlier this afternoon he told me he thought it was going into his back, so he didn't go tonight. My Nephew said he had gotten a call from his Mom that my brother had been taken to hospital by EMS. He couldn't walk. Right now emergency room says it is not heart, but I am not sure of that.Virginia

I'm so sorry that your brother is having these symptoms. Is this your brother, Eric, or your other brother? By now, I hope that he has a diagnosis and is being treated for whatever it is. When you wrote that his legs were hurting, my first thought was DVT/Pulmonary embolism.
I am also sorry that Grayson's girlfriend broke up with him on the phone and right before the U.S. Open! Oh my goodness! Her reason for breaking up with him doesn't make much sense to me. Why was she afraid he'd break up with her in the future? I feel sad for Grayson.
You and your family have been through so much over the past few years, and this year too. You all need a break. Sending you all prayers and positive, healing energy.

Thanks Rose, this is my brother Eric, my youngest. They did a few test at hospital, but were unable to determine the cause. He was sent home today with orders to see his PCP. I have not heard from him and I don't think anyone has but his wife. She sent text to other brother that he finally had come downstairs and ate some supper, but was going back up to bedroom. He is still in some pain, but not as much as when he went to hospital. I don't know if he is on pain medication.
I feel for Grayson also. This girl grew up in California and is now living in Florida due to her job. She came home with Grayson while I had the UTI. All of the family got together except me. Everyone liked her very much. Rental home my brother is in is small, but his sister has two extra bedrooms so they stayed there. She really liked her, as did Eric and wife and my other brother and his wife. I wondered if she was trying to get him to commit to something more, but he is not in a position to do that right now. He said I was his date last night and insisted on paying for my meal. When he brought me home he walked me to the door and told me he loved me. I know he is grown but I can't help but be concerned about him. He was leaving today for Boston. I haven't heard if his Father's illness delayed him by a day or not.Virginia

Your brother came downstairs by himself to eat? Isn't that a little progress if he wasn't able to walk before? I'm really glad that they couldn't find anything wrong though it would have been nice if they'd have found something to help him.
Grayson's girl friend who left him because she didn't want to be left (and so she was going to do the leaving first) sounds as if she might have trouble dealing with being too afraid of being left. Since everyone liked her, maybe he will have made it clear to her that he'd like her to reconsider, and she will. If she's in Florida permanently, that might not be so easy, but people move around pretty freely these days.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. I hope that you have heard from Eric or his wife today with an update on his condition. It is unfortunate that no diagnosis was determined in the hospital. I wonder whether they explored side effects of any medications he takes. I mention that because it is the last thing doctors consider for symptoms.
Recently, I have been experiencing truly painful leg cramps during the night, after which my calves ache for most of the day. I've also had a spate of night sweats. I checked the side effects of lisinopril and Synthroid, and the latter lists both cramps and sweating as side effects.
It doesn't matter how old our loved ones are, we always worry about them. Clearly, you and Grayson have a close, loving relationship. I pray that he is able to work through his heartbreak and focus on his golf now.
Prayers for Eric, Grayson, you and your family ~
