Soul, I have known a couple of people who thought they had PTSD, but no one was actually diagnosed so we don't really know for sure. However, I think it takes time and therapy in order to come out of it and obviously some people have a harder time than others. Do you think the psychedelics played any part in this. I am sure you have discussed all this with your therapist and your GP. I hope you will keep checking in with us. Someone might stop in that has a few more answers than we do.Last edited by Virginia; 07-20-2023, 10:14 AM.Virginia

soul, you're probably aware that BrainTalk has a forum for PTSD? The posts there aren't exactly recent but you might want to look into some of them just in case there's something helpful:

Soul, I know you are doing your best. I just hope you come out of this and soon. I am sure it is miserable to feel the way you do. Do not stop seeking help.
At one point I thought I might have PTSD. At a relatively young age my husband was diagnosed with cancer and died barely 6 months later. We both were working right up to the day he was diagnosed. He looked healthy, exercised and did the right things, so it was a terrible shock. I didn't go back to work. I stayed with him, weather in the hospital or at home that six months. When I did go back to work after his death, which was a necessity, I went just part time and accepted much lower pay thinking it would take some of the stress off of me. However, the depression and for me a lack of interest in things continued. The thing that helped me the most was that I joined a widow's group. Though I was younger than they were at that time it didn't matter. They were coming from the same place I was and we could relate to one another, often even to the point of finishing each other's sentences. If you could find a like-minded group where you are for persons with PTSD it might be a really good thing.
I want only the best for you. You have been on the forum for a long time. Please keep coming around, you never know what will help.Virginia

It sounds as if there has to be a combination of remedies for PTSD but the trick would be to get the right combination and at the right times. It's probably good to be open to all possibilities and suggestions and keep trying until you find a path out of it.
I've read and heard of some accounts of people with PTSD, and it must be nightmarish. Panic attacks, flashbacks, the whole nine yards.
Virginia, you must have gone through a terrible time losing your husband. It's good you found a helpful group. I've heard some tales of people seeking out support groups that turned out to be the wrong thing. Trial and error must be the way to go but it's probably important not to get discouraged if one plan doesn't work--and move on to some other plan.

Hello Virginia, about the psychedelics, I would have to say no, reason being I used them when I was younger and once I joined the drug trials I didn’t touch them, it was only within the last 5 years that I went back to them, and honestly once I started using them it was like a dusting and cleaning of the mind
And yesterday was a good day

Good luck with that, Ikoiko. You are very brave. I found this about it and notice it is also known as "cat tranquilizer." I don't mention this to disparage it in any way but was wondering if it is sometimes used to calm kitties? You never know what will work with MS--maybe ketamine will help. Hope you'll keep this board posted on whether you're eligible and what happens next.

Soul, just so happy for you. To have a good day means you can have many good days. I believe that you will. Maybe you did just get some stuff out of your mind that you needed to. That would be wonderful.
Ikoiko, I am sure you can trust your doctor with the correct dosage and how to give it if you do get in the trial. It will be interesting to see what comes from this.
Just a random thought here, but I am wondering if Soul would benefit from this drug.Virginia

Sounds like a tradeoff a lot of people might not want to make--getting rid of your depression but having hallucinations? I guess it would depend on how severely bothersome and how frequent the hallucinations were?
Depression and migraines can be so debilitating that I'm sure there are times when a person wants to take anything that even looks as if it might help.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.
