(AAN abstract) Hoarding and cluttering behaviors in MS patients...

It's not very often that looking over the abstract from a neurology conference involves anything vaguely entertaining, but this one might be--and anyway this board is a bit short on content just now, in the absence of flatcap and others.

It seems that the cluttering behavior of people with MS is being studied--and perceived to be something of a problem. It might be interesting to know what kinds of things or how many of them a person would need to be hoarding or cluttering to be considered a problem but the abstract doesn't go into much detail.

Presented at the annual AAN conference this month, "Hoarding and cluttering behaviors in multiple sclerosis patients: A longitudinal cohort study":

Well, since it seems to me, that how bad the hoarding is seems to correlate to the degree of disability makes sense because a person who feels bad or is incapacitated to any degree doesn't feel like c!earning or going through things to do away with stuff. Hadn't thought of this before, but makes a lot.of sense to me.

It happens in this building all the time even though other residents here don't have MS. They are getting on in years and some have rotten luck with grim diagnoses of cancer and other horrors. As they have to keep going for treatments that wear them down, they just don't have the time and energy for controlling the clutter.

I'm hoping that the researchers aren't aiming at the idea that people with MS have a problem with their brains that inspires them to clutter or to become hoarders. I would have trouble believing that.

I would have a problem if that is what they are saying. They could have just said we often suffer from debilitating fatigue and it results in some of us not getting a lot done around our homes.
