Keep On Moving for August - from Sunshine 2 (AKA BBS1951)

Here is Sunshine 2's message for the thread she diligently started for us every month:

MS creates some real challenges to keep on moving. It helps to inspire each other on how to find ways to move.

Did you stretch in your bed, swing your arms, roll side to side today? Or perhaps you did housework? Or exercised in a pool? Tracked your count of steps? Chased your cat around the home? Pushed the wheelchair wheels with your arms at the store? Post them here and we can support and egg each other on.

REMEMBER: this is a keep on moving thread, not keep on exercising! Any moving is important it doesn't have to be exercise! Even Science proves that.
I'm still keeping up with my exercises, such as they are. How about you?

My average step count for July was only 1,726 steps/day, based on 31 days. That's below most monthly averages in the past year. I have no excuse except maybe the recent summer heat.
    SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

I'll put this here in case anyone is interested. I intend to try these exercises. From Just Care (August 6, 2024):

Here are five exercises to improve balance that the Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register...:
    • Standing on one foot. Place a chair in front of you and hold on to it with one hand. Then raise one leg and hold it up for 10 seconds. Then do it again with the other leg. Repeat this exercise three times on each leg.
    • Walking heel to toe. Place the heel of one foot in front of the toe of the other. Now take a step with your back foot and move it so that the heel is just touching the toe of your other foot. Repeat 18 more times. Focus your gaze on a spot in front of you to steady yourself. You can also hold your arms out on either side of you for balance.
    • Back leg raises. Place a chair in front of you and hold on to it with one hand. Breathe in. Lift one leg back as you breathe out. Keep the leg you stand on slightly bent. Repeat 10-15 times on each leg.
    • Side leg raises. Place a chair in front of you and hold on to it with one hand. Breathe in. Lift one leg to the side as you breathe out. Keep the leg you stand on slightly bent. Repeat 10-15 times on each leg.
    • Balance walk. Walk in a straight line for 20 steps lifting one knee up and then the other. You can hold your arms out on either side of you for balance. You can also focus your gaze on a spot in front of you.

I do 3 of these, but not the standing on one foot. I have tried the heel to toe walk in the past and couldn't do it due to balance.

      Great step count!

Virginia, you're an inspiration. I haven't yet tried balance exercises but hope to get on with them soon as they are probably very important.

All too often I'm veering around and almost stumbling.
