September seems to mean the end of summer, and so here we are--though I can recall some very very hot Septembers in Chicago. But schoolchildren are back in school, and that must mean winter will be happening before we know it.

People with MS who have heat intolerance are probably glad to see the end of summer. I for one am especially glad--though I do like cheerful sunshine and colorful plants and trees, and seeing people outdoors enjoying the long bright days.

Summers near the Great Lakes were always a time to gravitate toward Lake Michigan if you lived in Chicago. I can't resist noting that schoolchildren who have traditionally taught to memorize the names of those lakes by thinking of HOMES will now have to think of HAMES, apparently, since one of the names is being changed. Since HAMES isn't a word that I know of, it will have to be SHAME, won't it?

I hope that anyone who is reading here will enjoy a September with only good weather and good health. And if you like fall foliage, get ready for it:

Happy September! Today we're supposed to get the hottest temperature so far this year - 99 degrees. And the very high temps will continue until Friday.

Stock up on ice cubes, I guess? And hope for no power outages? Too bad about your weather, jingle--unless you're one of those people who just love hot weather.

It's been quite cool here. It won't be long till I'm using the SAD lamp. My mood tends to dip a bit. Youngest granddaughter came round to do some cleaning. She showed me videos of my great granddaughter doing gymnastics. My great granddaughter is very good at it.

I don't like or enjoy hot weather, but I would rather have that than extreme cold. I dread weather with snow and ice. I think I'm just a grumpy old woman who can complain or whine about anything. I don't have many talents but I sure whine good.

It's the ice after the snow that I didn't like, because my balance isn't good. The days of walking outside on my own, they aren't coming back.I'm OK at budgeting, and being a dad/granddad/gt granddad. Mentioning the other thing I'm quite good at, it's a social faux pas.

Wow, Prot, I'm not good at budgeting. I'm awful with money - I spend too much on things I don't need and then wonder where it went.

jingle, women have often earned the right to be grumpy, IMO. Many have worked hard all their lives with very little compensation--and find themselves almost at the bottom of the ladder if they want something like medical care, transportation, or any other services that more prosperous people take for granted.

I don't understand why ice can't be routinely removed from passageways (roads, sidewalks) in communities of any size at least but I guess I'm expecting too much. In Chicago it was expected. Unless there had been a really severe blizzard, those plows and shovels were busy before the sun was up. You could always hear them. But that isn't how it is out here in the Pacific Northwest, where they keep saying that it never snows.

It does, usually at least once every winter, and sometimes the snow and ice remain for a week, but not to worry. They just shut everything down. Appointments? Forget about them. Deliveries? Not going to happen.

Chicago wouldn't have tolerated that. Snow was usually around for the entire winter, from late October on into May sometimes.

After moving out here I gradually realized I no longer needed snowboots or a muffler or a heavy winter coat. Freedom! But I've had to make adjustments for the "snow days" when nothing moves.

I certainly don't have anything interesting to say but I like to see just about anything. . We're having another super hot day - ugh. I should just stay inside with the a/c running, but I think I'll get in my a/c car and take myself to a Chinese restaurant for lunch. Anybody else like Chinese? I really enjoy a good Chinese buffet. There is a great one in the neighboring town and I go there so often -- too often -- I always get the same booth and my drink is waiting before I order it.

Yesterday was 21st anniversary of my wife passing away. Little things that remind me of her can still make me tearful.

I like Chinese takeaway more than Indian takeaway. Chinese is also better VFM.

jingle, I'm fond of Chinese food though I haven't done takeaway in ages. I hope the Chinese restaurant you're going to is air conditioned too.

They always have such great rice--and I don't know if almond cookies are still part of the scene but I loved them.

I've been slow at getting around to the Keep On Moving thread this month because the other day I had a little fall and was taking it easy for a while.. It could have been a very bad fall as it was on a hard tile floor in the laundry room here, the second time I've fallen in there.

However, I was able to pick myself up and haven't located any bruises or broken bones yet. The hardest part was finding a way to get up off the floor when there wasn't much to hang onto anywhere. An open dryer doorway served as my rescue, and ever since then I've been very very happy to have escaped injuries. Some aches and pains that I had anyway are a little worse but that's been the only effect. Maybe I'm learning to bounce?
