Weather in Iowa, is downright balmy, low sixties ?? for November ?, will take it,, no problem, but eventually mother nature will get us,,

There are people on this board who won't be celebrating Thanksgiving with a special feast. Some because they're not in the US, others for a variety of reasons.

Special wishes go out to those who aren't invited anywhere or who aren't up to cooking or buying a holiday meal. There are times in a person's life when a holiday just doesn't go down well.

It IS thanksgiving week, peeps.
Family theater: drama or comedy?

I unloaded two pieces of pre holiday psych-anxiety, stopped mail, and booked a priceline hotel room
for one night during the trip so I could chill out in a WARM, quiet place.

One of my sisters going to our childhood home believes she needs to be hostess.

She's has the sense of hospitality, grace and cooking skills of piece of dull, grey slate.
That's generous.

Sharing room with her is a test of grace and tolerance for everyone.
I haven't gotten anyone to cosign her psych evaluation so she gets to act as alpha female
since mom died (and is laughing at us).

Sig ex is coming along.
We need more maleness, he knows the drill and the family digs him.
He'll want a reality check, too, so I have a hotel roommate.

As a passive-aggressive, I'm going to the family cemetery(sp?) plot and plant
a lot of early spring bulbs- the kind that one sib hated and annihilated at the house.
My mom and grandmother loved them so this is a covert gardening mission.

Families do weird stuff.
The stuff of novels.

A woman I know attended her moms' "thanksgiving on the beach" for years.
Guaranteed respiratory infections for everyone until the new year.
It wasn't in a house- it was ON THE BEACH next to feverish crashing waves or the lapping sound of low tide.
Without a bonfire...november on a long island sound beach is good for 15 minutes.

I wish you all a good week and a good holiday.
A good story or lesson learned- things to be very grateful for or, at least, some lasting wisdom.

This year we are going to MIL house for Thanksgiving as usual but since everybody is else in the family is doing their own thing we are going out to dinner! Our kids usually work as the hospitals cant close down for the holidays. We had our big dinner with daughter family last week. And as my kids say, it doesn't matter what day you get together and it is hard to turn down double time and a half. All the years I worked I always took on call status for the same reason. Plus when you have a dairy you work 365 days a year.

Strange weather it is cloudy and windy but it is 60 deg right now. Feels like a Santa Ana wind storm of So. Calif.

Still dealing with the insurance company. I am half a step from getting lawyers involved. bad thing is I do not know the right questions to ask to get this moving. I dont know any insurance or lawyer folks to ask either. It is almost impossible to get the adjuster on the phone and you can ask 10 questions in an email and he MIGHT answer one. We applied for a new mortgage to rebuild as winter is coming and we don't want to live in the motorhome until spring. I am ready to settle for just about anything to get things moving.

Needless to say all this stress is beginning to wear me down. Not something you need when dealing with $$ and insurance settlements. But on the plus side my new partial is ready today. I am tired of going around like the slack jawed yokel, missing my upper front teeth. I miss eating popcorn! Alot of my problem is major depression I cant get to sleep at night and cant get out of bed in the morning. I know this and I know it will pass and the house WILL get replaced (one way or the other!) but it is hard to sit and not get anything done both because of my health and other peoples (in)actions.

I hope everybody has a great Thanksgiving and if you are traveling please be safe.

Last year, I was in rehab in the hospital and had a chicken sandwich for TG dinner. My SSon brought me a basket of fruit, which my Grands all ate upon their visit..LOL So they broke bread/apples with me. That's what it's all about. Right?

We know your insurance isn't FEMA and it is certainly not going belly up.

Should we start a petition on Change.org?
If your insurance co is being obviously negligent Idaho must have a consumer
advocate watchdog office. Government or non-profit.
There's always the AG's office.

Lawyers are often a good answer. One problem with lawyers though is that they so often talk about "billable hours" and charge for every minute on the phone....

Billable hours talk gives me the willies.

I think fried chicken and waffles would make a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner.

Gary, the lawyers who work for big firms most especially talk about billable hours. Look for an independent one and ask his fees before you start
anything with him. I certainly would advise one in your situation if you are having any problems at all with the insurance company. A good lawyer
can get more done in a half hour phone call than we can in two weeks. You just need a good one who is fair about his fee. This is a ton of stress you
are dealing with.

Renee, sounds like you got Thanksgiving all sewed up with lots of family and friends. Enjoy!

Gabriella, I thought I was going to stay home and eat leftovers today. However, my friend and I were invited to some friends home to eat. Well, anyway
he is coming down with a cold, so he stayed home and I stayed home, but believe it or not the friends we were going to eat with brought each of us a
plate to our respective homes. So I did not eat leftovers afterall.

I am reading a book "Reading Lolita in Tehran". It is for my book club. I finished it tonight and enjoyed it very much. Agate, if this is not something you have
read you might want to get it from the library and read it. The setting is Tehran, Iran at about the time the revolution started and then the 8 year war with Iraq. It is a true story about a lady who is Iranian, but had lived and studied in the west for years. She returned to Iran with her husband and taught American Literature at The University of Tehran until she was expelled for not wearing the veil. She did teach at a couple of other colleges. She started a secret class in
her home where she and some of her students met once a week to discuss the literature works that they were not allowed to study in Iran.

Peg glad all seems to be well in your world. I hope everyone autographed Nora's cast and that she can keep it for awhile.

Sally, glad your little pooch is happy now, and I am sure your daughter gets him over to see you quite often.

It was funny that I was reading the book that I was because the people we were going to eat with are Iranian, at least the husband is from Tehran.

Yes, Joan we do have some here on the forum who are struggling at this time. I do hope everyone is able to hold things together without getting sick or
sicker.

I wonder if she mentions the US hostages in Iran at the time she is writing about. Anyone remember Richard Queen?

If not, he was one of the US hostages but he was released long before the others because he was diagnosed with MS.
