Giving the disabled a bad name?

    This makes me see red!

A report claims wealthy Manhattan mothers are paying disabled guides so their kids can cut lines at Walt Disney World.
UNCONFIRMED: Report claims moms pay disabled tour guides to cut lines.
According to a Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register..., some wealthy Manhattan mothers are turning to hiring disabled tour guides to help their children cut lines at Walt Disney World.
The report claims moms pay the tour guides, who allegedly operate out of the Dream Tours business, $130 an hour, or $1,040 per eight-hour day, to help their kids cut to the front of ride lines, Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register....

The Post's source is Wednesday Martin, a social anthropologist writing a book called "Primates of Park Avenue" about the insider details of Manhattan's elite.
"It's insider knowledge that very few have and share carefully," Martin told the Post. "Who wants a speed pass when you can use your black-market handicapped guide to circumvent the lines all together?"
However, in the Post's report, none of the mothers is named, and the tour group that is supposedly behind it denies it uses a tour guide's disability to bypass lines, Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register....
The man who runs Dream Tours Florida told the Post the tour group's guide has an auto-immune disorder and uses a scooter on the job. Dream Tours did not return a request for comment from MSN News at the time this story was published.
Disney allows disabled park guests to enter rides through a more convenient entrance, according to the Post.

    Oh but nuthatch, opportunity knocks!

These disabled guides will be in demand, and I'll bet some of them work part time or flexible hours and can ride around on scooters.

They won't be able to hire enough of them and will have to start paying them more and more. What a wonderful chance for people with MS to find employment! The sky's the limit!

And you get free entertainment all the livelong day!

    Seriously, though, this is outrageous.

This really frosts my cookies! Grrrr ...

      What a slimy scam.

First, pretending that a Guide is part of your family or group so that you can go to the front of the line for rides is disgusting.

An actual "Guide" would have no need to join you on the ride. A Guide should lead you to wherever you want to go (if you can't read D-land and D-world maps and follow simple signs). Then deposit you there and wait or return to check on you at a certain time.

It's great for persons with disabilities to serve as "Guides," and their assistance would be most helpful to families and individuals with disabilities visiting the Park, showing them the most accessible attractions and restaurants, restrooms, etc.

But a person with a disability becoming a Guide, solely for the purpose of healthy, able-bodied, wealthy socialites getting their healthy, spoiled, bratty children preferential treatment goes beyond the pale. It is dishonest and unfair to those, who actually do deserve to go to the head of the line, because they are really visiting the park and are truly disabled.

Ah, but 'tis the land of free enterprise, eh? And if someone is willing to pay for it, someone is willing to do it.

I'd be interested to hear Disney's take on this, but I bet there won't be one. Those Manhattan socialites bring a TON of moolah into the Park. Top of the line accommodations, food, entertainment, all the junk available to buy to prove you were there, etc. Why would Disney ever want to discourage them?

Forsake the cash for scruples? Never.

Yep. I do believe this little tidbit irritated me! Guess I need to go watch some birds now ...

Because this story really riled me, I posted on the Child Neuro forum, referencing folks there to your thread here. Then, I went on a rant about my own Disney experiences with my two sons. Couldn't seem to help myself, perhaps I needed to vent about it!

I'm not a Disney fan, as a result of those experiences, and I'm sure not a fan of wealthy Moms, who use disabled guides as foils to get what they want.

As I said in my Child Neuro thread: this is fraud. Plain and simple.

Think I'll go back to watching the storks stand on one leg, while their babies sleep piled in the middle of the nest. I get a kick out of the night time video. That one egg still hasn't hatched, and we're waiting on 2 eggs with the herons. Oh, but that's another thread ... sorry ... I digress.

I'd rather watch birds than go to Disneyland or Disney World!

If i can't go on rides because I'm a para does this blow it for my Park Avenue employers?
I'm feeling discriminated against because I am too crippy.

Primates of Park Avenue sounds marvelous.
