Because I have to come in my office, turn on my computer, and all that good stuff, I do not post as often as some of you do. I am always happy to see new people come by, and I am always happy when someone welcomes them. However, since there are some days that I do not get on I simply defer to the wisdom of those of you who have your laptops and devices that you can have around more often and therefore post more.

Stickies do not bother me, however I understand how they do some people. Reading through this thread, I seem to see some very good ideas.

How About a "Welcome to the MS Forum" Sub Forum?

      ((((((HUGS TO ALL)))))) ~

How about a sub forum, above the main MS forum, titled "Welcome to the MS Forum" or "New Member Introductions"?

Please look at the Child Neurology forum, and the Coping with the Loss of a Child sub forum with it, for an example of what I'm describing.

That way, each new member could post there with an introduction, and you all could respond with a to that person's thread and invite the new member to join in the frivolities here at the MS forum. Every new member would have his/her own thread. No one would have to serve as the Welcome Wagon Lady (or Gentleman). New members would be readily apparent, if they posted in that forum. A reference is then provided for a refresher of that member's history.

I don't know whether this would work, just thought I'd run it up the flag pole to see if anyone might salute. Worth running by Mike Weins and Moderator 7? Can't hurt?

Your forum is the most active forum on BT, so whatever you all need, I say we give it to you!

      Love & Light,

      Rose

Sounds as if it's worth trying, Rose! Thanks so much for pointing out this possibility!

I'd like to know what others think.

I go to an automotive forum, and they have maybe 10 stickies, but they're all relevant to the titles of the post. I have no problem scrolling past them. It only involves pushing one key. My cats do that every now and then. It would be a nice way to get to know about new members.

I like Rose's idea too, although I don't see anything too bothersome, about a sticky.
            ...So there.

              Hello everyone!

I'm pretty sure a sub-forum would be doable. Gary had mentioned writing something permanent for a sticky. That could also be done under the sub-forum heading.

The sub-forum would be above your forum and other stickies.

Between Rose's two ideas of what to call the forum, I like "Welcome to the MS Forum" better than ""New Member Introductions". I think it's nicer to be welcomed than to have to introduce yourself.

Think about whether you get enough new members for a sub-forum to be used or just become a different kind of "sticky", whether you'll notice a new member's posting (new things might take a while to get used to), and also think whether you like the idea of a personal name greeting in your forum better. You could also ask Mike if this could be a trial sub-forum if you want to see how it would work, first.

I agree. If we don't like the way it looks or works, we can always request to have it undone.

                    Hello Sally and Agate!

I love your enthusiasm, but this is beyond a mod's capability to do! I cringe when I remember as a new mod I once sent one of Frog42's posts to some deep, dark corner of this program .

Mike will have to see what is possible to do and tell you, then you can all decide what you want!
