neuropathy ??

Hi , It's Me again looking for answers from the all-knowing! I have been having the hot/cold sweats I have had the thyroid checked and hormones they are fine. In my search for help I looked at "neuropathy" and I am thinking this is my problem, so what do the Doc's have to offer for relief ?? Help again some one Please.

I really do not know. I have only heard of painful neuropathy. My husband has it in his legs. Common symptom connected with diabetics.
But I do experience shifting hot and cold spells which I associate with MS. It happens several times a year....
Good luck dealing with this frustrating situation.

Hi Jan,

I've had good results from taking Cipro in the past for UTIs. Not everyone who takes this drug will develop nerve damage--the risk is probably low. The warning from the FDA counsels doctors to discontinue Cipro in patients who develop symptoms as described here:

If a patient develops symptoms of peripheral neuropathy, the fluoroquinolone should be stopped, and the patient should be switched to another, non-fluoroquinolone antibacterial drug, unless the benefit of continued treatment with a fluoroquinolone outweighs the risk. Peripheral neuropathy is a nerve disorder occurring in the arms or legs. Symptoms include pain, burning, tingling, numbness, weakness, or a change in sensation to light touch, pain or temperature, or the sense of body position. It can occur at any time during treatment with fluoroquinolones and can last for months to years after the drug is stopped or be permanent. Patients using fluoroquinolones who develop any symptoms of peripheral neuropathy should tell their health care professionals right away.

The hot and cold sweats you mention are not typical symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. In fact, I've had cold sweats during UTIs, and it has always meant that the kidneys were getting involved.

I hope you will consult your doctor soon.

Sally, I am allergic to many drugs and because of the UTI's I have to take it.

Agate, I see my Doc on a regular basis and I will ask about the Cipro.
