There seems to be quite a lot of evidence supporting the idea that keeping your mind active by challenging it is helpful in slowing down cognitive decline. The point about mind-game Websites like Lumosity that charge a fee is that you could do yourself just as much good by saving your pennies and doing crossword puzzles, playing mind-challenging games (chess, Sudoku, Scrabble, etc.), even working jigsaw puzzles on a regular basis.

I have been reading all the comments on brain function. Very interesting. Quiet frankly I get much interesting help by reading here. I don't guess you would say outstanding, but the different idea's and article's to read gives you food for the brain if you really think on it.

Of course the humor and just the caring for one another is worth reading and it encourages me.

I'll tell you a little story. Several years ago I was close to someone that had MS. They were going on a trip from NY to FL. I had never met this person, except to talk to them here on BT. They felt like a member of my family.
my husband and I invited them to spend over night with us to help make the trip easier for them. They did come and we enjoyed having them.

I had a habit of getting up in the night to go to bathroom which is in other end of our house . We live on Main Street so we have plenty of light without turning on more lights. WEll as luck would have it I had to get up. I totally forgot we had guest. Even if I had remembered it I would not expect to see them in the dinning room typing at 2:00 a.m.....

So, here I go , not having my eyes wide open, I just walked right into them across their lap. I tried to get up gracefully (lol) and went on my way. They didn't say anything and I think I may have said "excuse me". but not even sure of that. They never mentioned it and neither did I.

so the moral of this story is watch out when you go to the bathroom at night without lights on. No telling who you might run into!!

A long story that doesn't have to do with anything at all. I was just reading your comments about the brain and how it worked or didn't work. This story came to mind. At least 4 years ago. My brain seems to remember certain details, Ken's brain works totally different. I would say he has at least TWO marbles running around there like Mike said in his post on Progress.

It takes all kinds, right? Julia s

Being on the Net, and being active on various forums, is brain exercise for me. So the Net can be a good thing if used right!

I find that the harder I try (push it) the worse it gets. Both physically and mentally. I am not as active on forums as I used to be. But I read everything I can get my hands on. I am a news and weather junkie. I like to stay up on current events and politics I never miss an election and try to be informed before I vote especially on local stuff.

I guess the reason I started this thread is I can feel my mind slipping, I don't remember things that I think that I should. And it really bothers me. I have come to the decision that it is linked to the MS. I miss out on a lot due to not being able to follow a conversation in person and on TV. Now I realize that my hearing is not what it should be. When you are young people say wear hearing protection and you don't listen. Now a higher tone (higher pitch voices) all sound garbled to me. I have started agreeing with everyone rather than saying huh all the time. One thing I do miss is that I used to be able to listen to a piece of equipment running and was able to hear bearings, belts etc that were making different noises. Now I have to use a stethoscope (designed for automobile mechanics) or get someone to listen to it.

Gary, thinking it's all linked to MS isn't based in fact, but actually is based on your own perception, that it's MS because you have it.

Your are getting older aren't you? Well along with your aging brain, the brain focuses more on what you need to remember. The rest isn't really worth remembering. Extra baggage!

I'm getting older, as we all are, and I don't see as well due to nothing but getting older, having been an avid shooter, and once in a rock band, my hearing isn't what it used to be.
I wish both were better, but it's not worth one second of thought or worry. My back and shoulder hurt, but they have had Arthritis for a while.

The coolest thing I've seen lately was on Facebook. An older lady, 105 years old, being shown a video of her dancing in a chorus line when she was young. Try to find it anyone who wants to see a really sweet video.

Gary, I don't want you to focus on what used to be, but what you want tomorrow to be! You'll be much more worry free, and happier!

I would post it here, but I have no idea how. But I did send it to Gary through his "timeline". It's the best, most touching short clip I've seen in a while.
