    New neurons!

Scientists have built artificial neurons that fully mimic human brain cells
They could supplement our brain function.

    FIONA MACDONALD29 JUN 2015

Researchers have built the world’s first artificial neuron that’s capable of mimicking the function of an organic brain cell - including the ability to translate chemical signals into electrical impulses, and communicate with other human cells.

These artificial neurons are the size of a fingertip and contain no ‘living’ parts, but the team is working on shrinking them down so they can be implanted into humans. This could allow us to effectively replace damaged nerve cells and develop new treatments for neurological disorders, such as spinal cord injuries and Parkinson’s disease...

At last! What's not to like about this? Will they shrink these new neurons down while you wait? Probably not.

Try going to your neurologist and saying you'd like some of those nice new neurons, and you'll just wait until someone has shrunk them down to your size.

Then park yourself in the neuro's office and set a spell. Bring a book along in case the wait is longer than anticipated.

      Microchips…microneurons. Bio-nano technology, maybe.

Anyone read the NARCOMS blip about stimulating myelin growth in our favorite rodents
with athletes foot treatment ingredients? No, the rats don't have athletes foot.

Lordy, lordy I don't think I could make that up.
Any professional comics on the board...

Just waiting for a Southwest Air rep to pick up my call.

I just spent several days with family in a big get together...the number of iPhones and iPads and the seamless way they were subtly used throughout the day made me feel that we are already well on the way...

Does anyone remember the Star Trek Next Generation episodes about the Borg? Humans and technology intertwined...hard to know where one begins and the other ends.

It was not that anyone was answering or making phone calls and loudly interrupting the social structure. There were uber calls and that new marvel service amazed me....people checking flight times to find delays and getting new boarding passes right there on the iPhone. All done quickly and all making the connections easier.

If I were at a different stage in life I would have learned all this and use it too...but it is the new world and for now I am trying hard to return to the last century...Farming does that to you!

So, I babbled far afield but the idea of the research that started me thinking led me here.

Star Trek? Did someone mention Star Trek? I own them all on DVD. The Borg episodes were so good, so well thought out. Now what was I saying...........

Maybe they'll be available on Amazon?

              Hi Linda,

The technology is surprisingly easy to learn, not as intimidating as I first expected when I was faced with buying a new device. I wasn't an eager beaver to be introduced to new technology either, to put it mildly. I've been pleasantly surprised how easy it is to pick up.

Unfortunately though, the situation you described at your family event, that occurs all over now, even at the dining room table in many homes, has led to humans having an attention span worse than a goldfish now.

So, technology has its downfalls too, unless you're a goldfish and into gloating.

Lol, I just mentioned how easy new devices are, and mine just changed "NARCOM" to "NASCAR" in my post. haha
