I was surrounded by smokers too. Everywhere you went there was a cloud of smoke.

My parents smoked Wings during the war and kept on smoking them long past the end of the war, and then they moved on to Pall Malls. Later my mother changed to Kents.

I used to roll cigarettes for the family, change the lighter filters, fill the lighters, empty the ashtrays. Cigarettes could keep a person busy just "tending" to them.

You'd think common sense would tell people that constantly taking smoke into your lungs might not be the greatest idea, but no.

Some large fortunes were made in tobacco.
      SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

Now that my memory has been jogged I remember most of the comercials. After smoking about 35 years I quit-----cold turkey. Well, maybe not quiet the truth, after spending weeks at a time in hospital CCU's was a help. Of course I don't recommend that way of quieting, but I did quit. Dr. said COPD and I said I wouldn't help that along. I stopped about 2 years ago.

Not to say I don't still want a cig. almost everyday of my life, but so far I have not give in to them. Mr. Jo smokes and I doubt he will ever quit. I don't nag at him, just don't mention it at all. He doesn't smoke in the house or in my mini van, but he will in his truck.

Oh well, it will have to be his choice to stop. Man, I have wanted a ciggie so bad today, but so far I haven't give in . The day is about gone, tomorrow is another day. Maybe I will get to TARA soon!!

Good luck to all trying to stop the nasty habit, but I truly do feel for you! take a puff for Jo, ok?

            MS made me quit indirectly.

I went on SS, and was waiting on the first check to come in, so I had to move in with my mom. My dad had just passed away from smoking, and I knew I couldn't smoke in front of her.

So I got down to my last pack, then counted down to the last cig, then took the lighters and ash trays and put them in the trash, and never looked back. It's hard to do, but it can be done. Your brain and will are stronger than the cig addiction!

So, what is it in the cig that helps MS. Is it the nicotine?

Saltpeter takes your sex drive away, well for males anyway. Just the name of it works for me.

Ha ha I have always thought that just the name would scare you off. Of course that is an old wives tale, completely not true. But it is a great food preservative and it is added to toothpaste for sensitive teeth.

My dad smoked a pipe full of Kentucky Club. He had Zippo lighters. Is there any other kind? You could mail them back and they would fix them for free.

Once, on a trip home from Boston to Pittsburgh area, I brought my Mom some incense from Chinatown. Daddy thought that was just awful, stinky stuff.

In nursing school almost everyone smoked. Each class smoked the same thing. It changed every other year. The classes above and below me smoked Tarreytons (?sp). My class smoked Kools. I think I may have tried to smoke 2 of them. My room was next to our lounge so I kept them in the fridge in case anyone needed to borrow one which, I think, was the reason behind an entire class smoking the same brand.

So if it preserves food, do you think it might preserve, you know.

I heard that nicotine is neuro protective. I have it in my e-cigs. It's the tobacco that's so bad for you.
