Thanks! I can surf a wave that size, but I can't nose ride. Yet... There's a gal at my beach who can do it with such grace, looks a lot like the one in Theinertia video :) how is it you are on Inertia website? Did you used to surf?

No, never got into surfing, but did try it many, many years ago. Husband did surf when he was young and our son has been bodyboarding for many years. He's really too tall at 6'5" for surfing, but loves bodyboarding. For a period in his life he was really into it and was sponsored by a bodyboard company. He lives in the San Diego area now and doesn't have as much time for bodyboarding, but there was a time when he was always checking surf cams, swell reports, ect. for just the right conditions . . . such is the life of a surfer!
A friend whose husband is still surfing daily, posted that video on FB. The water was so glassy, every surfers dream!

This is a video of a famous bodyboarding spot called the Wedge. Only the crazy, very daring diehards surf here, it is so dangerous. The waves are crashing down in maybe 2 feet of water and as you'll see in the video, they break into a wedge hitting hard from both sides. My son has boarded here a few times, but even he says it's crazy, crowded and very dangerous.

I love watching body boarding! And they don't get the respect from surfers that they deserve! I have seen so many clips of The Wedge and it looks like it's a rite of passage, but not all that much fun :)

Surfing changed my life when I started four years ago. You could rightly call it an obsession or an addiction :) my BIL body surfs with a club in Del Mar. That takes strength and guts to be out in big heavy waves without a board!

BBS, The fact that you can do any of it, with MS on board, is amazing.

I agree with Sally, amazing you can do it. It take so much balance. Thank goodness falling into water is forgiving, but you can certainly get hurt or worse when tons of water slam you around.
My son once had his eardrum ruptured by the force of a wave. When it happened, he was so dizzy he couldn't stand up or walk and didn't even know which way was up. Luckily, an observant friend noticed something was wrong and dragged him to shore or he might have drown. That good friend drove him home, his eyes spinning in his head and bleeding from the ear. I'm grateful that friend was there . . . he was the only other person out that morning.

Enjoy, but be careful BBS. Never surf alone!

I surf with a crew of senior women. They know I have MS and really have my back :) it's like surfing with ten pound weights on each leg and one pound weights on the arms and hands. Water is very forgiving! It can be scary in a bad wipeout for sure.

I think surfing helps me with balance. And I also use an Indo board. That helps with balance.

Good story about your son nuthatch. Those are stories we moms cringe at!
