Yes, finally, after several fits and starts, a day of anxiety trying to track down the wound vac -- supposed to be shipped to the nursing home, instead got shipped to my home, an hour away --, I'm home.
Tom Cat waited all day until 5:30 when the wound vac arrived at our house. Threw it in the car, drove to the nursing home, getting there at 6:30 p.m. While they installed the wound vac, he packed up my stuff. For the most part I had stuff pulled together in plastic bags, foodstuffs, toiletries, medicines, medical supplies, etc, but still a lot of stuff. Then a catheter bag change, colostomy pouch dump, and we were out of there at 7:30. Stopped at a sub shop for sandwiches to bring home for dinner (which neither of us ate earlier), got home about 9:00 p.m.
A good long petting session with the furkids, unpacking just enough stuff to locate my meds, the wound vac cords, the sandwiches. Ate, brushed my teeth, tumbled into bed, plugged in the wound vac, popped my pills, switched from the leg bag to the overnight Cath bag, was in bed by 10:10, asleep by 10:11, woke now at 4:30 when Tom Cat got up to feed the kids. Otherwise did not so much as move my arms...good thing as Cindy was asleep on one arm all night, TabbyGrey held one leg in place, Tuffy the other, and Cassie in and out from alongside my torso and with Tom Cat....or so I'm told, since I only woke up as they were all getting up for breakfast. Now everyone has come back to bed, including Tom Cat. Cindy is here next to me, purring quietly. TabbyGrey is holding down my feet. Tuffy is at the foot of the bed, doing sentinel duty. Cassie is curled up with her poppa.
Still don't know what is happening with Cassie. Nothing showed up in blood urine or stool samples to explain her illness. But she is all skin and bones, barely eating, barely drinking. Tom Cat sits with her and encourages her, bite by bite, sip by sip. He's feeding her whatever she seems to want to eat, mostly canned food, some tuna, cheddar cheese. Vet gave us some pills that supposedly will stimulate her appetite... we will see. She doesn't appear to be in pain, just lethargic, not eating. Obviously we're now both keeping watch.
Got a boatload of stuff to do today. Have to call the visiting nurse, who intends to come today, register me as a returning client, figure out a schedule when they're coming during the week, work out a supply list, etc. Got to get my meds organised. Most are the same as I was taking before I went in to the hospital and nursing home, but I have some here, some issued by the nursing home, new oral antibiotics that replace the iv ones, all have to be sorted out and gotten ready for the new week, starting tomorrow.
Then start unpacking all the other stuff. Tom Cat wants it all done NOW. I have to take it in small steps. Meds first, medical supplies next (have to find an ostomy pouch, for sure!). Then other stuff, like finding my desk which looks like it's exploded with confetti, but Tom Cat assures me is organised. Well, I suppose it's organised if it just blew through a tornado...
But yes, I'm home. Four furkids happy to see me, a warm bed, food in the fridge. Does feel good to be home...
