    Newer Symptom.

Spasm jerky motions are new for me and thinking some of my meds are responsible?
Kinda scary as in are they permanent or temporary. Once the spasm throws my leg out
then I can't move it back voluntarily. I must force it back and hold it straight for awhile.
I'm trying to adjust my meds to see if it's the cause.... With Doc's okay of course.

Anyone else have these jerky spasms? And what have you done to stop them? Help me
please. I sure pray that it isn't a new permanent deal?
    Love, Sally

So sorry you're experiencing spasms, Sal. They are a common symptom of MS, but could be a side effect of a med.

Are you on any new ones?

Baclofen or gabapentin can help, or any of the benzos like clonazapam, diazepam, ativan, etc. Physio can help too. Sometimes magnesium can help, although it could interfere with other meds, so check carefully first.

Hope it is shortlived for you! ((((hugs & chocolate))))

I'd look at the medicines first. I'd look each one of them up on a trustworthy drug information site and find out what the possible side effects are. Then with the doctor's OK I'd stop first one of those meds, then another, and try to figure out which one is causing the problem.

Some nutrition problems can cause strange problems too--low potassium, for instance.

Are they doing regular lab work for you, Sally? Just to make sure there are no red flags?
      SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

This is the first thing I thought of as well.

I, too, would look at meds first. Generally not prescribing any of the benzos for people over 70 anymore as renal clearance lowers rate of excretion and can cause problems.

You mentioned that PT was not an option for you because you weren't "improving" and just needed it for maintenance. You need to stretch even without the PT to prevent spasms. Get one of the aides to help you if you can't do this yourself. Please. I know this is frightening as something that might not be fleeting.

What Meds are you taking? Do any of them deplete vitamins?

I wish you could be closer to your kids so the could oversee your care. How far are they?

Sally, those jerks could be an MS symptom, myoclonus. I've had it since 1982. I am on clonazepam but have decreased the amount over the years v-e-r-y slowly. Now I am transitioning to baclofen. I still jerk, mostly when things come into my visual field that I wasn't expecting.

Still, I think that your jerks are most likely a side effect of some new med.

Or your chocolate level is low.

                Thank you all wonderful friends.
I agree with you all. I was looking for a miracle answer. I believe
it's the meds and I'm kinda working on that as I,m coming down off of
one now and another later. I hate going backwards instead.of forward.

I'm always listening to your wise advise, as always and love you for
caring. I'm doing one day at a time right now and need you more than
ever. Mmmmmmm chocolate, yes that could be it.!

DD was here today and she helps me as much as she is able, but is limited
because of how very busy she is. I must be understanding of this and do as
much of it as I can, myself. Doc n Nurse are helping me, to a degree.

                I love you guys.. Huggggggggs!

Just thinking here, drinking coffee and eating pumpkin bread.

The "jerks" could also be from something stopped or decreased.
